Monday Monologue #182

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Somehow, when it wasn’t raining or snowing on Saturday, my next door neighbor cut his grass. I won’t be doing the same.
  • We got some cool new accessories for out boat over the weekend. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to use them for a few days.
  • I did our taxes on Sunday. We owe, as expected, but, much more than we had hoped. We’re going to be writing a BIG check next month.
  • We’ve been getting a lot of virus attachments to emails recently. They get auto-deleted by our antivirus software; but, even if they didn’t we wouldn’t open them. I know it must work or they wouldn’t be sent; but, I still wonder who opens suspicious attachments in 2016.

  1. Amazingly some business users open most anything. Our VP Finance wiped out all of his computer and would have taken out some of our SAN had we not stopped it in time. Attachment said it was a tax bill from the IRS. Or the UPS failed delivery notice. You know the drill.

    • Old Guy: I’m sure that you are right. But it is mystifying. I think that part of it is because there are so many “protections” against any and all email attachments that bypassing attachment security is something that people do regularly.

  2. Just curious what antivirus you run. We use McAfee at work and I use Kaspersky at home. Still seems that some odd attachments get through.

    • Old Guy: We use Microsoft System Center, Symantec and MacAfee depending upon the age and origin of the computer at work. Kaspersky on all our computers at home. KAV does a really good job.
