Monday Monologue #255

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The eclipse today was super cool. We don’t live in the path of the totality; but it still got dark enough that wildlife was confused. Birds were flying around confused and roosting for the night. Water fowl got out of the water. And other things like that. Glad we decided to go watch it outdoors.
  • Our vacation was great! Almost enough to keep us going until Labor Day. We really hated to see it end. Especially since the weather around here is turning cooler after having 90-degrees temperatures every day while we were on vacation.
  • I had to have the hard drive replaced on my computer at work. Unfortunately, a few programs were corrupted before I noticed including Internet Explorer which seems impossible to fully uninstall and reinstall. And a lot of other automatically applications send you to web sites using the default browser.
  • I’m more relaxed than I was before our vacation; but I’m so far behind at work that I’m sure it’s going to take me all week to catch up. But, our vacation was definitely worth it.

Monday Monologue #229

  • The weather is starting to get colder again. But. This weekend was divine. Temperatures on Saturday were in the 60’s. A rare treat for February.
  • I had to work three hours late today. I’ve certainly worked later; but that’s not the way to start the week. Hopefully the rest of the week will be better.
  • The Wife and I do not have any big plans for St. Valentine’s Day. For us it is just a regular Tuesday. We focus more on individual “holidays” like birthdays and anniversaries.
  • I’m starting to get sick again. Not like I was back in January. But, I’m still not quite my usual self. Hopefully it’ll recover much quicker this time.

Monday Monologue #186

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The weather was glorious so The wife and I went out and rowed a LOT over the weekend. It was sunny and warm without a cloud in sight. A great way to get back into our regular schedule.
  • Most of the games are blow outs; but I’m still enjoying the early rounds of play offs in the association. Hopefully our favorite team can do better than they did last year.
  • I mailed our taxes today. It was definitely an un fun experience. It almost seems like last Friday wasn’t a regular pay day.
  • I saw that another neighbor is building a swimming pool in their backyard. I wonder if they will be swimming before we will since our opening day is already finalized for early next month. (Two weeks later than usual.)

Monday Monologue #179

  • We had a pretty god run in the park on Sunday. Another warm weekend. It seemed almost spring-like. Of course temperatures are falling back to normal tomorrow and Wednesday.
  • This is the first leap day post of this blog. I’m pretty sure we published at least one on our “old” blog. We’ve had many leap years, obviously, but February 29th still seems unusual.
  • I attended yet another service today for someone who was lost too soon. It’s sad.
  • The wife and I are starting to think about de-winterizing our boat. Hopefully there will not be that many more nights where the temperature drops well below freezing.

Monday Monologue #142

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Wife and I had a great race this weekend. We’re still not fast yet; but, at each regatta, we row better than the last.
  • The temporary dog has been pretty insistent about getting someone’s attention when she needs to go outside. Unfortunately, I often happen to be that someone.
  • The officiating has been consistently terrible in the Women’s World Cup soccer games I have watched. Both no calls and phantom calls. The level of play is much higher when all the best female players for a country are concentrated on a single national team so they really need more officials.
  • Today was not as stressful a day at work as in the past few weeks. I really hope that’s a trend that continues.

Monday Monologue #141

  • Now that it’s been redone, out pool is magnificent! It’s almost like new. (Which is a good thing since getting it fixed was gigantically expensive.) We really love it and swim it as often as we can so, for us, the expense is “reasonable”. But, it would never be considered cheap.
  • We can’t understand how anyone can say not playing the Women’s World Cup on grass isn’t sexist. It’s not the preferred surface for anyone who has ever played the game. And temporary grass isn’t that expensive. I guess everyone was too worried about being caught accepting bribes to do their jobs.
  • The “temporary” dog had an accident in the kitchen. Not good; but probably the “best” place. She doesn’t like to go outside in the rain. But that really doesn’t matter since she’s a dog.
  • We’ve been drowning in spam emails recently. Our spam filter is working well so it’s not a “problem”. But, I still need to review the global spam folder all and ensure that it doesn’t contain any legitimate emails.

Monday Monologue #136

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I purchased the fight on Saturday. It definitely was not worth the money. But, I’m still glad I got it since it was really more of an event. I still can’t believe a guy dressed up as the burger king man was in the entourage of one of the fighters.
  • I came home early from work today so The Wife and I could row before the thunderstorms that were predicted in the early evening. It’s now approaching 11PM and we haven’t seen any rain. We’re flexible so it was no big deal. However, the lack of accuracy in the weather forecast is mildly annoying.
  • It’s supposed to be warm this week so I had an AC “tune up” on Friday. We didn’t have any issues except the air doesn’t circulate as well as it should since we keep all the upstairs doors closed so the “temporary” knows to stay out.
  • I’ve was assigned yet another project at work even though I already have far too many other things I’m responsible for. I’ve have no idea why management thinks its “good” that I’m downing with tasks while other people aren’t so busy. I don’t complain (much) since that’s not my way; but, that doesn’t mean I’m happy.

Monday Monologue #134

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Wife and I were finally able to row as planned this past week. Our schedule is flexible; but, we still like to get on the water regularly.
  • I finally received my passport. I know I requested “routine processing” since I didn’t need it for any particular time. But, a simple renewal shouldn’t take months. There was no doubt I was dealing with a large bureaucracy.
  • Our newest vehicle uses semi-synthetic motor oil. Amazingly, the cheapest place for an oil change is the dealership. They do good work; but they are out of the way. It wouldn’t have changed where we bought the car; but it is an occasional nuisance.
  • I don’t follow regular season basketball much, if at all; but I really enjoy playoff time. Win or go home adds excitement that the regular season can’t match. So far, our favorite team is winning.

Wednesday Weirdness #133

Tax day sucks. Especially if you owe like we do. And especially if you’re NOT opening your swimming pool the same week. We know that the pool will be even better after it’s been painted. But, right now, it’s a small bit of cheer that’s missing.

Monday Monologue #132

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’m fully recovered from my malaise of last week. Mostly because I was able to remedy the situation. And I learned a lesson that I will not forget.
  • We rowed for the first time of the season on Sunday. It was great to get on the water. Unfortunately, rain is in the forecast for the next few days. So it will be a while before we can go rowing again.
  • We’re having some work done on our pool so we will be opening it later in the spring than we typically do this year. Hopefully, it won’t rain too much and delay the start of the project.
  • I’m not nearly as much of a fan of the “boys of summer” as I used to be. I almost forgot that today was opening day. My favorite team will be out of contention by July anyway. Is it football season yet?
