Monday Monologue #262

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It’s taken over a year; but I’m actually almost comfortable transporting our boat on the roof of our car. I still don’t drive as fast as I normally do which is probably wise.
  • We visited the temporary dog and her owner. It was a bit weird being the guest rather than the host. But everyone, dogs and humans were glad to see us.
  • It rained so I didn’t cut my grass over the weekend. It’s going to be kind of shaggy before I get to it this coming weekend.
  • I didn’t realize it was Columbus Day until I was already in my car preparing to run errands. Unfortunately, it’s just a regularly day for us.

Monday Monologue #250

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Temporary Dog and her owner were home this weekend. The dog still remembered how to swim which is always one of my worries and was well behaved except for barking out the window one night at a skunk wandering around in the front yard.
  • A flat tire on Saturday night is a nuisance if you have to drive home to another city the next day. There are not a lot of places that can fix it on Sunday. I was at the shop before 8AM and there was already a line before they opened.
  • I was out and about a lot on Saturday and Sunday so I didn’t cut the grass over the weekend. Hopefully it won’t get too long before I can get too it. I probably could have done it on Sunday, but I just wanted to relax and enjoy the last little bit of my vacation.
  • Its going to take several days to catch up on the work that accumulated while I was on vacation. Recently, it seems like taking time off is really just scheduling extra-long work days for when I return. I enjoy my vacations; but, hate the long hours that follow them.

Monday Monologue #176

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The “temporary” dog was back to visit for the weekend; but that was a good thing since her owner was home too. It was a good family weekend.
  • I upgraded to the latest version of Office. It wasn’t a big change which was expected. And the install was much quicker with a faster CPU. Unfortunately, it didn’t fix the issue we’ve been having with our computer. I’ve got several more upgrades to do when I have time.
  • I didn’t realize it at the time but the upgrade to WordPress v4.4 in conjunction with a buggy plugin broke comments. They weren’t broken for admin users so I didn’t detect and correct the issue right away. I’ve disabled the bad plugin just in case even though there’s an update which theoretically fixes the problem. I need to be more vigilant in the future.
  • It’s supposed to snow tonight. Amazingly, it will only be the third time all winter. It’s been cold and soggy; but I haven’t needed to shovel a lot of snow. It seldom snows only few times in a “typical” winter; but I’m not complaining.

Monday Monologue #170

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Christmas was great. It was great to all be together. And, unlike most years, I can actually use most of the gifts I received. And, the “temporary” dog didn’t have any accidents while she was visiting.
  • We watched the new Star Wars movie when everyone was home over the weekend. It’s definitely a worthy addition to the series. I’m certain we’ll be getting it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.
  • It has rained a LOT over the last few days with yet more rain I the forecast. I’m starting to think that snow would be better. Especially since the temperature is near-freezing. And I hate being cold and wet.
  • Work is a very distant memory. We’re really enjoying our long Christmas vacation. I still working out every day; but I’m even on “vacation” from the gym I usually go to during my lunch break.

Monday Monologue #144

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Windows in preparation for Windows 10. It’s good to get our computers cleaned up. I should have refreshed (reinstalled) the OS long ago. There was a LOT of software I didn’t really need any more.
  • It rained most of the day today. Needless to say, we did not row or get in the pool. But we did have a good run on the park during a break in the rain.
  • It’s really nice being off from work. We’re “understaffed”, so I’ve been overworked for months and a lot of stuff is probably piling up in my absence. There will probably be some long days to catch up next week. But, I’m not even thinking about that right now.
  • Trying to decide what to get both of the kids for their birthdays. They’ve already got a lot of sort of things I like to buy as gifts. They’re not hard to buy for. I just like to give presents that are both useful and fun.

Monday Monologue #118

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’m kinda a gadget person so I get a lot of worthless “semi-gadgets” as Christmas presents. For some of my relatives gadget is synonymous with cheap toy that breaks the first time I use it if it even works at all. I’m polite; but I’d much rather have a sweater that fits.
  • The “temporary” dog has already eaten all the supposedly extra-durable toys we got her for Christmas. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had too clean stuffing up off the floor.
  • The video card in one of our desktop computers had died yet again. And, the fan didn’t work on the spare (i.e. an old one that was replaced in a previous upgrade) that I saved. So, I’ll be spending a bit more to buy one locally since I wouldn’t receive an internet order in timely fashion because of the mid-week holiday.
  • I upgraded the WordPress software that runs this blog. Mostly just a bug-fix release; but the default font in the editor is somewhat larger which is very welcome for these bifocal-wearing eyes of mine.

Wednesday Weirdness #100

I heard through the grapevine (i.e. another family member) that my brother is planning to move this coming weekend and “may” need help. Who plans to move over a holiday weekend without definitively arranging help in advance? The Wife and I (and our son) already have plans and would not be very happy if we need to rearrange them. And, unfortunately, everyone else in the family isn’t much help for one reason or another, especially for heavier items. This could be an “eventful” weekened.

Monday Monologue #98

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We went out to dinner with our extended family and had bad service yet again. We’re completely mystified why they all like places where the dining experience is terrible. Especially since there are much better restaurants just down the street.
  • I’ve discovered the next gadget to put on the list for when we have plenty of money and are living large. A refrigerator with a built in touch screen display.
  • I’ve been doing much too much with the “temporary” dog. I just keep telling myself that it’s not going to be for too much longer.
  • The weather was so dreary that we didn’t feel like going rowing today even though it wasn’t raining when we would have actually been on the water. It’s early August; but it seemed like a gray November day.

Monday Monologue #33

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It was just for a long weekend (for Mother’s Day); but it was GREAT having our son AND our daughter home. We don’t all get together nearly as often as The Wife and I would like. We watched the last Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in the home theater on Friday. Is been forever since we had a movie night with all four of us.
  • I found a dead thing in the pool on Sunday. That would not ordinarily be news except that we no longer have a vacant lot next to us; so I had to find another way to dispose of the carcass. Bloated, blackened carcasses are nasty! Now I wonder what everyone else who has a pool does with the critters they find in their skimmers.
  • Our Keurig coffee maker totally weirded out today. It was working fine in the morning, then, in the afternoon, it started making partial cups. I tried all the standard fixes without any success. What ultimately fixed it was blowing out all of the crud that was restricting the water flow with compressed air. I’m still not sure how something that we only fill with reverse osmosis water got so dirty. It’s working like new now, so, we won’t have to go through coffee withdrawal on Tuesday.
  • I was going to get a new gas grill to kick off the summer; but, while I was shopping for a new one, found replacements for the troublesome components. So, for less than $75 our grill will be as good as new. I just need to fill the propane tank. The place I go is kinda out of the way; but it’s a LOT cheaper than swapping the tank since they only charge for what they put in.
  • For a variety of logistical reasons, we won’t be having our photo season until Thursday. So this week’s photo posts will be delayed. But, as they say “it’s all good”.

Wednesday Weirdness #8

I did not realize it until yesterday (Tuesday); but Thanksgiving is actually next week rather than the week after. I am usually MUCH more aware of upcoming events, so it’s surprising that the holidays are already here. The Wife and I are both looking forward to everyone in the family being in the same place. Those occasions have become more and more rare; but, for a few days, it will be just like old times.
