Monday Monologue #257

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Saturday was wet and dreary; but we were able to get in the pool both yesterday and today. A great way to commemorate the symbolic end of summer.
  • Looking forward to pro football season. Hope springs eternal for the downtrodden fans of our favorite team.  Especially before the first game of the season. Perhaps the weather will cooperate and we’ll be able to get attend some games in person without freezing.
  • I replaced one more item on our boat that I didn’t think needed to be replaced but was actually more worn out than I thought. We row it a lot so things get worn out faster than if we didn’t use it so much. Hopefully this is the last thing for the season.
  • For some strange reason, an old computer game that is a favorite of The Wife and I has been crashing a lot recently. I’m not sure what, if anything, has changed; but it’s frustrating, especially when we’re winning.

Monday Monologue #249

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • All of the rain that we had in Friday made the water high and the river full of debris. So, we didn’t row over the weekend; but we definitely got in the pool. So far, a great start to our vacation.
  • I did few errands this morning. It was weird since some places were open and some places were closed. Most parking lots were only half full and I was able to get in and out of everywhere very quickly. If only every day could be like this.
  • My gas trimmer has been at the repair shop for a long, long time. I would have purchased a new one except its still under warranty. I’ve been using my old corded electric one for much of the summer which is a nuisance.
  • I ate way too much at the cookout we had today. It was good. I just need to make sure it’s a very occasional thing. I could never exercise enough if I at that much all the time.
  • Everyone have a happy and safe Independence Day.

Monday Monologue #244

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Our garbage disposal was making noise and dying (again) so I spend the first part of the holiday weekend under the kitchen sink replacing it. Definitely not the way I had planned to kick off the weekend.
  • The starter on my trimmer is broken and, for some reason, the parts needed to fix it aren’t available online even though they are common repair items. So, I’ll have to take it at the “authorized service center” and leave it for what otherwise would be a very basic repair.
  • The supply hose and associated fittings for the automatic chlorine feeder to our swimming pool also broke. So, the simple task of adding chlorine to the reservoir became yet another repair. That’s kinda how the weekend went.
  • Even though it rained some, The Wife and I were able to row every day over the long weekend. And, for us, any warm spring day on the water is a good day. So, it was still a good weekend.

Monday Monologue #242

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Monday Monologue #238

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Even though we had a short week, the weekend definitely was not long enough. They never are; but this one seemed busy even though we didn’t really have much to do.
  • I am very happy I got new outdoor power equipment last year. I was able to get through the yard on Saturday without the mower bogging down even though the grass was taller than normal.
  • The “temporary” dog who now just visits was well behaved this past weekend. She’s definitely not a puppy anymore. But, she still thinks that this is her permanent home.
  • I mailed out taxes today. We always owe since that’s how we plan things so we always wait until (almost) the deadline. But it still doesn’t make it any more palatable.

Monday Monologue #224

  • This weekend’s professional football games were forgettable. Hopefully tonight’s college championship game will be better.
  • We still need to take down some of our Christmas decorations. I was planning on doing it when I recovered from being sick; but I didn’t expect to be sick for neatly this long.
  • I washed my car on Sunday even though it was freezing cold outside. I love the color of my new vehicle; but it’s really not suited for a place where they salt the roads during the winter.
  • I’m not the first person its happened tool and everything is fixable; but the benefit deductions from my paycheck are wrong. Of course, I have less money than I was expecting (rather than the other way around).

Monday Monologue #222

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Merry Christmas! We know it’s a day late; but, since we’re having our Christmas celebration today, it seems fitting to wish everyone merry Christmas.
  • For us, it wasn’t a problem; but the datacenter our server is in was offline due to network issues (again) over the weekend. This blog is just a fun hobby for us. So, the lost uptime isn’t catastrophic.
  • It was almost 70-degrees today. I’m sure that winter will return shortly; but it was nice to run outside in shorts and a lightweight shirt.
  • The Wife and I went out for dinner on Christmas since it was just us. Not something that we would want to do every year; but it was still a good evening. It was definitely more crowded that we expected.

Monday Monologue #221

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’ve done a lot of Christmas shopping without leaving home. There are always a few things which I purchase a local store; but I’m buying more and more online. The retail shopping experience has really changed in the age of the internet.
  • It was nice not having to go to work today. Instead of a typical hectic Monday, I enjoyed a day without much to do. Work is becoming in a distant memory.
  • I went to Sears exchanged the socket that I broke last week when I was working on one of our cars. The store wasn’t very crowded which was good for me; but it’s probably not a good sign for them. Especially considering how crowded the mall parking lot was.
  • It’s cold outside! If this is what December is like, I don’t even want to think about January and February. It was finally warm enough to go to the car wash which is good since my car was covered with road salt. The water that didn’t get dried off still froze on the way home; but, at least the car wash was open.

Monday Monologue #219

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I reconfigured my outdoor power equipment from grass cutting mode to snow blowing mode even though the lawn could/should be mowed one more time. It’s cold enough outside that I really don’t see myself cutting the grass until next spring.
  • I joined a new gym today even though I still workout in my old one. It doesn’t have the character; but it’s much better managed. That shouldn’t make a big difference; but it does.
  • This past summer was fabulous so the onset of winter seems especially miserable. I know that it can’t be summertime year around; but it’s the recent cold temperatures somehow seem worse after having warm weather until mid-November.
  • I know what I’m getting almost everyone for Christmas even though I haven’t bought it all yet. My immediate family is really easy to shop for. Unfortunately, that is not the case for all of my relatives. Thankfully I’ve still got a couple of weeks.
