Monday Monologue #242

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Monday Monologue #238

  • Even though we had a short week, the weekend definitely was not long enough. They never are; but this one seemed busy even though we didn’t really have much to do.
  • I am very happy I got new outdoor power equipment last year. I was able to get through the yard on Saturday without the mower bogging down even though the grass was taller than normal.
  • The “temporary” dog who now just visits was well behaved this past weekend. She’s definitely not a puppy anymore. But, she still thinks that this is her permanent home.
  • I mailed out taxes today. We always owe since that’s how we plan things so we always wait until (almost) the deadline. But it still doesn’t make it any more palatable.

Monday Monologue #224

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • This weekend’s professional football games were forgettable. Hopefully tonight’s college championship game will be better.
  • We still need to take down some of our Christmas decorations. I was planning on doing it when I recovered from being sick; but I didn’t expect to be sick for neatly this long.
  • I washed my car on Sunday even though it was freezing cold outside. I love the color of my new vehicle; but it’s really not suited for a place where they salt the roads during the winter.
  • I’m not the first person its happened tool and everything is fixable; but the benefit deductions from my paycheck are wrong. Of course, I have less money than I was expecting (rather than the other way around).

Monday Monologue #222

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Merry Christmas! We know it’s a day late; but, since we’re having our Christmas celebration today, it seems fitting to wish everyone merry Christmas.
  • For us, it wasn’t a problem; but the datacenter our server is in was offline due to network issues (again) over the weekend. This blog is just a fun hobby for us. So, the lost uptime isn’t catastrophic.
  • It was almost 70-degrees today. I’m sure that winter will return shortly; but it was nice to run outside in shorts and a lightweight shirt.
  • The Wife and I went out for dinner on Christmas since it was just us. Not something that we would want to do every year; but it was still a good evening. It was definitely more crowded that we expected.

Monday Monologue #221

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’ve done a lot of Christmas shopping without leaving home. There are always a few things which I purchase a local store; but I’m buying more and more online. The retail shopping experience has really changed in the age of the internet.
  • It was nice not having to go to work today. Instead of a typical hectic Monday, I enjoyed a day without much to do. Work is becoming in a distant memory.
  • I went to Sears exchanged the socket that I broke last week when I was working on one of our cars. The store wasn’t very crowded which was good for me; but it’s probably not a good sign for them. Especially considering how crowded the mall parking lot was.
  • It’s cold outside! If this is what December is like, I don’t even want to think about January and February. It was finally warm enough to go to the car wash which is good since my car was covered with road salt. The water that didn’t get dried off still froze on the way home; but, at least the car wash was open.

Monday Monologue #219

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I reconfigured my outdoor power equipment from grass cutting mode to snow blowing mode even though the lawn could/should be mowed one more time. It’s cold enough outside that I really don’t see myself cutting the grass until next spring.
  • I joined a new gym today even though I still workout in my old one. It doesn’t have the character; but it’s much better managed. That shouldn’t make a big difference; but it does.
  • This past summer was fabulous so the onset of winter seems especially miserable. I know that it can’t be summertime year around; but it’s the recent cold temperatures somehow seem worse after having warm weather until mid-November.
  • I know what I’m getting almost everyone for Christmas even though I haven’t bought it all yet. My immediate family is really easy to shop for. Unfortunately, that is not the case for all of my relatives. Thankfully I’ve still got a couple of weeks.

Monday Monologue #218

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The long weekend was GREAT! The only “bad” thing is that it ended all too quickly. Unfortunately, I won’t have the opportunity to do it all over again in a month like many people. Where I work, Christmas Eve is not a holiday.
  • I’ve started running more and boxing less recently. Boxing is fun; but, I would much rather be outside enjoying the sun and relative warmth of late fall. There will be plenty of days to box during the cold, dark, dreary winter.
  • I browsed; but didn’t do any Cyber Monday shopping. Nothing that I was really looking to purchase was on sale. I’m sure that I’ll do most of my Christmas shopping online again this year. I just haven’t got started.
  • I do like the new version of PaintShop Pro. It’s got a few refinements that make it quicker and easier to use than the previous version. Plus, it isn’t quite as buggy which was the main reason I wanted to upgrade.

Monday Monologue #206

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Except for being the symbolic end of summer, The Wife and I really enjoyed our extended Labor Day holiday weekend. It was long and relaxing. I wish we had more weekends like this one.
  • We cleaned the hard water stains off of our boat on Saturday. We don’t think about it since its (mostly) clear; but, it’s amazing how dirty water is. This is the second time we’ve done it this summer.
  • When the sun is out, it doesn’t seem like fall; but, college football was back this weekend and pro football will be back next weekend. We love fall sports; even though we prefer summer weather.
  • We can tell that summer is winding down now that the house is cooling down at night rather than warming up when the smart thermostat allows the temperature out of the comfort zone when we are sleeping.

Monday Monologue #197

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Happy Independence Day! Always good to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
  • It rained some today; but we took advantage of the cooler temperatures to go out and have a great row. We should have good pool weather by Wednesday.
  • The battery in the Wife’s watch is running down. It’s good having a nice wrist watch. But it’s a nuisance that it has to be sent out every other year for battery replacement and pressure testing. My watch has a much larger battery so it’s still running on the original one. The battery in the backup watch had died too.
  • I need to cut the grass sometime this week; but, I’ve already done everything else around the house that I need to do. I even replaced the sensor in the outdoor light fixture that was malfunctioning.

Wednesday Weirdness #100

I heard through the grapevine (i.e. another family member) that my brother is planning to move this coming weekend and “may” need help. Who plans to move over a holiday weekend without definitively arranging help in advance? The Wife and I (and our son) already have plans and would not be very happy if we need to rearrange them. And, unfortunately, everyone else in the family isn’t much help for one reason or another, especially for heavier items. This could be an “eventful” weekened.
