Monday Monologue #247

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The weekend was even busier than planned. But it was all good. Looking toward another crazy busy couple of days outside in the sun next weekend. The upcoming long weekend for the 4th of July should be nice and relaxing.
  • The new outdoor power equipment I got last year is great for hectic weekends. The engine is powerful enough that yard work always takes the same amount of time even if the grass is long and/or wet. Definitely quicker than the small push mower I was using previously.
  • I did take a break and get in the pool on Saturday afternoon which was nice. It was a great way to relax after a busy day. Unfortunately, Sunday was super windy and not good pool weather. I really could use an extra weekend day sometimes.
  • It rained today; but we still got our row in after the storms passed. It’s nice not being on a schedule and being able to get out whenever we want. Much better than rowing at a specific time.

  • The weekend was glorious. We rowed every day and got in the pool as well. I did have to cut the grass along the back line; but skipped the rest of the yard. It was a cool spring. So, we are really enjoying the hot weather.
  • The new automatic chlorine feeder certainly makes checking and adjusting the pool chemistry an easy task. Every time I replace it I think that Its not that expensive relative to operating a pool I need to get a new one more often before it becomes such a nuisance.
  • Our printer is running out of whatever ink cartridge is represented by a circle as opposed to a bowtie. I wonder why they couldn’t just use words rather than cryptic symbols since it has an LCD display. I think it’s low on color ink.
  • The Wife and I did our second twilight row today. We love the long days of late spring and early summer. We just wish they lasted longer. We’re already almost to the longest day of the year.

  • Our garbage disposal was making noise and dying (again) so I spend the first part of the holiday weekend under the kitchen sink replacing it. Definitely not the way I had planned to kick off the weekend.
  • The starter on my trimmer is broken and, for some reason, the parts needed to fix it aren’t available online even though they are common repair items. So, I’ll have to take it at the “authorized service center” and leave it for what otherwise would be a very basic repair.
  • The supply hose and associated fittings for the automatic chlorine feeder to our swimming pool also broke. So, the simple task of adding chlorine to the reservoir became yet another repair. That’s kinda how the weekend went.
  • Even though it rained some, The Wife and I were able to row every day over the long weekend. And, for us, any warm spring day on the water is a good day. So, it was still a good weekend.

Monday Monologue #243

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had a great day of racing on Saturday. The Wife and I make a pretty good team mostly because she makes up for my deficiencies. And, we’re still improving.
  • Once again, I couldn’t cut the grass along the back line. If it’s too wet, it’s too wet. But its mildly irritating have a yard that’s mostly neat except for one area.
  • I had to call customer support for something today and, for once, the representative wasn’t in an off-shore call center somewhere. Unlike most of the calls I’ve made about broken items needing repair, the call was quick and painless.
  • We both can’t wait for Memorial Day weekend. Just knowing that next week is a short week makes this week seem shorter.

Monday Monologue #242

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Monday Monologue #241

  • Our pool is finally open. Of course, the water is freezing cold. And it’s so cold outside, it’s not worth heating up yet. In fact, we’ve been having frost warnings overnight. It’s definitely not swimming pool weather.
  • The grass near the fence line in back yard is still to soggy to cut. Not much to be done; but it’s annoying having it so much higher that the rest of the yard.
  • I broke the quick disconnect for the hose on our pool cleaner when I as detaching it since it was brittle from years of being in the sun submerged in chlorinated water. Of course, a replacement is not in stock at any of nearby pool supply stores so we won’t be able to get all of the earthworms out of the pool for a while.
  • I changed the filter on our RO unit over the weekend. Its amazing how “dirty” tap water is. And how much faster the flow of filtered water is after replacing an old, dirty, clogged the filter.

Monday Monologue #240

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I cut most of the grass on Saturday during one of the breaks in the rain. Its nice having a lawn mower that doesn’t bog down in heavy wet grass. Several areas were too wet; but, and will need to dry out for a while after it stops raining.
  • One of the many meetings I attend at work got cancelled today. It’s not likely; but I’m hoping that several others follow suit.
  • My reward for leaving work at a “normal” time on Friday is a task that must be done after hours today. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I won’t be up too late. Definitely not the best way to start the week.
  • We are opening our pool this week! Hopefully the water will not be over flowing because of all the rain. Of course, it’s supposed to be cool and wet this week so we won’t be getting in as soon as its ready.

Monday Monologue #238

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Even though we had a short week, the weekend definitely was not long enough. They never are; but this one seemed busy even though we didn’t really have much to do.
  • I am very happy I got new outdoor power equipment last year. I was able to get through the yard on Saturday without the mower bogging down even though the grass was taller than normal.
  • The “temporary” dog who now just visits was well behaved this past weekend. She’s definitely not a puppy anymore. But, she still thinks that this is her permanent home.
  • I mailed out taxes today. We always owe since that’s how we plan things so we always wait until (almost) the deadline. But it still doesn’t make it any more palatable.

Monday Monologue #216

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).
  • I fixed an issue with the plugin that generates the local weather so now the weather is back in the side bar. Unfortunately, it’s kinda depressing.
  • I also renewed my computer anti-virus subscription. I can remember the days when such things were truly unnecessary. The internet has come a long way and not everything is good.
  • Usually I think that merchants start the holiday season too early; but I am already more than ready for Christmas. I’m already thinking about my online Black Friday shopping.
  • I’m debating whether to leave the lawn mower set up in anticipation of cutting the grass one more time or prep the snow blower. Sadly, there is already a chance for a dusting of snow this coming weekend.

Monday Monologue #213

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Sunday was breezy but still sunny and warm so I cut the grass except in one area where the ground was still too wet from all the rain we had last week. I don’t cut the grass during the week anymore since there isn’t much sunlight and we would rather be doing something fun. We’ll be preparing for winter in a few weeks anyway.
  • The drain in a sink in the master bathroom was clogged and needed to be cleaned out which wasn’t difficult except for the terrible smell since I had to remove the trap. I’m pretty handy around the house which is good. But sometimes, I kinda wish I wasn’t
  • Our oldest vehicle was in the shop and needed a part that is difficult to find. It’s been relatively reliable; but I’m wondering how much longer it will be repairable. It’s much older than our other cars.
  • I took our last CRT TV away to be recycled today. In the world of touch screen LCDs, it’s amazing how primitive “technology” used to be.
