Monday Monologue #286

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It snowed all the way back from our weekend road trip! It really doesn’t seem like mid-April.
  • I’ve got our tax returns ready to mail on Tuesday. We always owe and never get any money back and this year is no different. But, we are glad to have the extra day to keep our money.
  • All of the rain has been good for the grass which really needs to get cut. Hopefully it will warm up enough so that it will at least feel somewhat spring-like when I’m outside mowing the lawn.
  • I found a new gym to box and work out at. So far, I like it much better than the gym I use to go to.

Monday Monologue #285

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • For the second Monday in a row, we woke up to snow on the ground. It all melted by the afternoon. But; it was still not the preferred way to start the week.
  • I did not cut the grass today like several other people in our neighborhood. Mowing the lawn on the same day it snowed just seems slightly odd.
  • We watched a spectacle type movie this weekend. That’s our preferred genre to buy on Blu-Rays. The movie was what you would expect. But the special effects were great.
  • I am getting really tired of getting muddy shoes every time I walk around outside. It’s rained so much this spring that the ground is still oozes mud even when it hasn’t rained or snowed in a few days.

Monday Monologue #284

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had a great weekend. I was even good to see the dogs. Primarily because they always accompany the daughter. And we don’t see her nearly as much as we would like since she moved away.
  • I somehow misplaced a five-dollar bill. Obviously, it’s not the end of the world. But, regardless of the amount, it’s the type of thing that annoys me. I’m hoping it will turn up soon. Otherwise, I’ll be slightly aggravated every time I think about it.
  • We rowed today even though it was cold. Mostly because it’s the only day that we we’ll be able to for a while. The weather in April looks like it may be just as unfriendly to rowing as the weather in March. And sunshine has been almost non-existent this spring.
  • I broke a tooth. Of course, it was late in the day after the dentists; office had closed. So, I don’t even know when I’ll be able to have it take care of.

Monday Monologue #281

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We watched a spectacle style Blu-ray when I finally got finished with all of my work. I like always having a movie or two around to watch whenever we don’t feel like going out
  • We are not having as much difficulty as usual adjusting to the time change this year. I’m not sure why, but we’re not complaining.
  • I washed my car on Sunday so of course it snowed today. Not a lot of accumulation. But enough road spray still got on my vehicle; so that it doesn’t look like it was just washed.
  • Looking forward to the basketball tournament this month. It should be good, even with the cloud hanging over the coaches at some of the programs.

Monday Monologue #279

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had the highest water we’ve seen in many, many years this weekend. Even though its warm (for February), we won’t be rowing any time soon. We just hoping we don’t have an unusually wet spring. Thankfully, it seems that the bitter cold weather is over for the year. Although it will probably snow again.
  • We’ve only been able to workout outside a few times this winter. It’s either been cold or snowy or rainy or some combination. It was warm enough this weekend and wasn’t raining all the time; but, unfortunately, the park was under water.
  • This past week, I’ve been uninstalling programs from our computer that we don’t use any more. Usually there are only a few; but, this time, I’ve actually created quite a bit of space. I also updated the programs we do use that don’t have auto update capability.
  • I thought about doing our taxes; but that’s as close as I got. We still have six weeks and I am in no hurry to mail a big check. We always send in our return the last week anyway so that we keep our money as long as possible.

Tuesday Two For #278

The Husband going down on The WifeI finally fixed a weird issue that I have been having with a computer that I upgraded to Windows 10. The “fix” was amazingly simple. Diagnosing the problem was the hard part. And, even though I know what’s happening, I still haven’t figured out why. I don’t like mysteries. Especially technical ones.

We had a brief taste of Spring today. One of those rare days February days where we could open all the windows during the day and get outside in the afternoon. I’m sure that we will be back to bundling up soon. But today was great. Even if it was only for one day.

Monday Monologue #278

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I donated blood on Friday for the first time in a long time and it was just as uncomfortable as always. I’ve been donating regularly since I was in college and I still HATE the feeling of a needle in my arm.
  • Yesterday’s All-Star game was actually competitive and entertaining. A lot different than the games of the past several years that were all offense and no defense. And, no one got hurt despite playing hard.
  • I did not have today off from work. I never do and its usually not noteworthy. Except today was 70-degrees, which is likely a record high temperature for around here in February.
  • We are not too far from the time change after which it will be light enough (and hopefully warm enough) for us to row in the evening. Winter isn’t over; but, spring doesn’t seem quite so far away.

Monday Monologue #242

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Wednesday Weirdness #239

Up until the past couple of years we always opened our pool around Tax Day so we had a week with one good thing and one bad thing. It was (almost) hot today so we’re thinking about going back to that schedule. If we can row in February then we certainly can swim in April. Especially since we have a heater. We would rather have a cold snowy day with an open pool than a warm sunshiny day with the winter cover still on it.

Monday Monologue #237

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Wife and I are on a short mini-vacation. It’s coming to an end but it’s been fabulous. It’s been a great way to kick off the start of warm weather.
  • My “smart” car is smart once again and has performed very well on the road trip we are on. I was very happy to have it operation since we use many of the previously non-working features when we are travelling.
  • I noticed that we have a bunch of USB transformers and mini power strips in our travel kit that could easily be replaced with one USB charging station. At one time, we had several non-USB-powered chargers like our camera and needed the extra outlets; but, not any more.
  • Now that it has been warm, I kinda wish we were opening our pool around Tax Day as we have done in the past. May isn’t too far; but it’s would be nice to be able to look out over the pool even if we can’t get in it.
