Monday Monologue #242

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Wednesday Weirdness #239

Up until the past couple of years we always opened our pool around Tax Day so we had a week with one good thing and one bad thing. It was (almost) hot today so we’re thinking about going back to that schedule. If we can row in February then we certainly can swim in April. Especially since we have a heater. We would rather have a cold snowy day with an open pool than a warm sunshiny day with the winter cover still on it.

Monday Monologue #237

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Wife and I are on a short mini-vacation. It’s coming to an end but it’s been fabulous. It’s been a great way to kick off the start of warm weather.
  • My “smart” car is smart once again and has performed very well on the road trip we are on. I was very happy to have it operation since we use many of the previously non-working features when we are travelling.
  • I noticed that we have a bunch of USB transformers and mini power strips in our travel kit that could easily be replaced with one USB charging station. At one time, we had several non-USB-powered chargers like our camera and needed the extra outlets; but, not any more.
  • Now that it has been warm, I kinda wish we were opening our pool around Tax Day as we have done in the past. May isn’t too far; but it’s would be nice to be able to look out over the pool even if we can’t get in it.

Monday Monologue #236

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The weather this weekend was weird, even for around here. Saturday was cold and blustery. Sunday was gorgeous. We had to cram all of our outdoor activities into one day; but it was still a great weekend.
  • My “smart” car is still dumb and I’m not too happy about it. I understand that new technology can have issues; but they aren’t any closer to a fix than they were last week.
  • I completed the first and second pass of our taxes. We will not be receiving a refund so we’re not in a hurry. That’s kinda the way we plan it; but, we still don’t like to mail in a check any sooner than necessary.
  • It’s too late to change it but I wish we had scheduled our pool opening for earlier in the year. We wouldn’t be swimming yet; but it makes our backyard seem much more cheerful. I’ve already cut the grass multiple times.

Monday Monologue #235

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I hope that I didn’t jinx myself; but, I put the snow shovels back in the basement and change my reconfigured my outdoor power equipment for grass cutting mode. I also mowed the grass for the first time of the season. It’s definitely spring.
  • The computer that controls all of the “smart” features on our new vehicle is was having problems over the weekend. I didn’t realize how used to the features I had become until they weren’t working. I called the dealership and the advisor seemed familiar with the issue; so, presumably, they can fix it.
  • I saw someone deliberately drive the wrong way on a one-way street today because they didn’t feel like going around the block. It was clear that they knew exactly what they were doing from the way that they stopped and checked traffic beforehand.
  • We rowed today for the fourth consecutive day. That wouldn’t be significant in the middle of the summer; but it’s glorious from March.

Monday Monologue #234

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I think that the photos last week were grainy because the camera’s sensors got confused and though that her was more light than there actually was. Probably due to a reflection from something or other. In the future, I’ll ensure that it’s got a more direct line of sight to he intended subjects and that there’s nothing else prominent in the foreground.
  • I’ve given up on the WordPress app for my phone. More and more functionality has been moved to the cloud (i.e. wordpress.com). If their Jetpack plugin is installed, the latest development version won’t even connect to a blog without connection to wordpress.com. We self-host for many reasons, one of which is privacy. We’ve been extra careful regarding the plugins we install here and don’t use anything that “phones home”. Still; it’s pointless to have an app that only works with some of our blogs. Plus, it was becoming more and more of a nuisance to periodically build the app just to sanitize it.
  • Today is the first day of spring. So, of course, it rained and rained and rained. I definitely need to cut the grass as soon as its warm enough and dry enough. Thankfully, we had a lot fewer “big” snowfalls than normal even though it was a cold dark dreary winter.  I’m kinda looking forward to lawn mowing season.
  • I’m still very slightly congested; but I feel mostly normal. Hopefully, I haven’t spoken too soon. I’ve been sick enough this winter to last for the rest of the decade. I almost can’t remember what it not being sick feels like.

Monday Monologue #230

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I was/am still sick; but The Wife and I rowed on Saturday. It’s not very often that we would be able to row in February, so we wanted to make the most of the most of the warm weather.
  • We had a few customizations done to our boat over the winter and it looks amazing. We row it all the time so it gets used; but it’s still a sharp looking piece of equipment.
  • It wasn’t quite warm enough today so we went to the park and ran. It was fabulous wearing shorts and a T-shirt during an outdoor workout this time of year.
  • The weather was so nice that even cleaning the oven over the weekend didn’t seem like much of a chore. We could certainly get used to 60-degree weather in February.

Monday Monologue #189

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I purchased another piece of outdoor power equipment this past weekend. It really is nice not having kids in college anymore. Or more specifically their associated bills.
  •  I also purchased some new shelving and rearranged the garage. It was easy not to notice how worn our existing shelves were even though we walked past them every day.
  • We opened our pool last week. The water is still to cold to swim. But, all of the earthworms are out and the chemistry is good; so it looks nice while its warming up.
  • We’ve been getting a lot of spam emails messages recently. That’s unusual for us so we’re trying to find out what may have been changed to cause the problem.

Monday Monologue #187

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • To kick off the spring, I got a bunch of new outdoor power equipment. It made for a long weekend; but, it was all good since it was warm and sunny outside. I thought my old lawnmower was good; but, the new one is way better. It’s going to be a great time saver.
  • The temperature was over 80-degrees today. The only thing “bad” was that it wasn’t sunny until after 9PM. Needless to say, we rowed ’til the sun went down. Days like today are why I am more cheerful in the spring and summer.
  • We are counting down to opening day for our pool. I’ve got the deck ready and the yard is looking good. Plus, the weather has been great. The only thing missing is the pool actually being open. Hopefully, we won’t have too much spring rain when it is finally open.
  • Now that its sunny, I am really enjoying the sunglasses I got a few months ago. The only problem is that I don’t have any place to put them when we are out in our boat and it starts getting dark. It makes preparing to dock somewhat interesting.

Monday Monologue #181

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Just as we dreaded neither of us haven’t adjusted to the time change yet. It’s always discombobulating whether we gain or lose an hour.
  • The weekend was warm but rainy. Not the best; but a lot better than cold and snowy. Spring has arrived. Unfortunately, we are having the normal spring rains.
  • We’ve been opening the windows in the house a lot recently. The fresh air is wonderful. We’re not finished running heat, especially overnight; but we’re almost there.
  • I’ve been doing a lot of sparing recently against younger and bigger guys. It’s quite a challenge for me. I’m doing OK; but, its mentality exhausting when I’m in the ring.
