When I was at the gym working out, I noticed several people who appeared to be getting an early start on their New Year’s resolution to lose weight. I’m generally familiar with the regulars; but, it’s the totally unsuitable gym attire that makes them stand out. I’m amazed by how many people “improvise” and then are surprised and disappointed at their lack of results. I know I would be totally miserable and probably stop going if I was dressed like they were.

Monday Monologue #118
An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).
- I’m kinda a gadget person so I get a lot of worthless “semi-gadgets” as Christmas presents. For some of my relatives gadget is synonymous with cheap toy that breaks the first time I use it if it even works at all. I’m polite; but I’d much rather have a sweater that fits.
- The “temporary” dog has already eaten all the supposedly extra-durable toys we got her for Christmas. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had too clean stuffing up off the floor.
- The video card in one of our desktop computers had died yet again. And, the fan didn’t work on the spare (i.e. an old one that was replaced in a previous upgrade) that I saved. So, I’ll be spending a bit more to buy one locally since I wouldn’t receive an internet order in timely fashion because of the mid-week holiday.
- I upgraded the WordPress software that runs this blog. Mostly just a bug-fix release; but the default font in the editor is somewhat larger which is very welcome for these bifocal-wearing eyes of mine.
Friday Featurette #117
Christmas was great. Everyone in our immediate family received gifts that they can really use. Obviously, The Wife and I are good getting things for the kids since we know them so well; but we got good things from them as well. Of course we got the usual collections of gigantic nightgowns from some of our other relatives which we’ll recycle at the white elephant gift exchange plan on going to; but; that was expected.

Wednesday Weirdness #117
When I was running on the trail in the park on Tuesday, someone was there with a HUGE unleashed dog. I don’t know why people with dogs that big think everyone else is comfortable with something that gigantic coming up to them. It’s not fair to the dog to be uncontrolled in such a situation. I made them come get their animal and reattach the leash. The owner was annoyed; but what can he say? Dogs that weight more than I do are dangerous.

Monday Monologue #117
An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).
- I had a “good” run on Sunday which means I’m still feeling the effects today. It was long and I ran a BIG hill twice. I’m still trying to lose a few pounds and, after that run, in the future I’ll definitely think before eating “extra” calories.
- I did almost all of my Christmas shopping on line this year. Unlike the times when I’ve done it in the past; this year, it did NOT make the season seem less like Christmas.
- Our daughter has to work every day but Wednesday this week. She’s always worked over the summer; but, now that she’s got to work through the holidays for the first time, she’s developing a new perspective of being a grown up.
- By coincidence, our SUV needed an oil change this week. Usually they “recommend” additional services, some of which are good to do given the mileage. But, they we’re so ready to go finish the work and home for the holidays they didn’t offer anything extra this visit.
Friday Featurette #116
No Christmas tree photographs this year since our son seldom leaves the left the house and we’re never home alone. We’re not longing for the days of being perpetual empty nesters. But, we would real love some occasionally home alone time. We’ll see what the new year brings.

Christmas is in exactly a week; so today seemed like a good day to post a picture of us in our Santa hats. Our phot posts are seldom never serious; but wearing Santa hats makes this one even more light-hearted. We’ll be posting next week; but still wanted to wish our visitors a merry Christmas before everyone is off for the holidays.
