Friday Featurette #126

The Wife standing naked in front of the mirror drying her hairWe’ve got a busy weekend ahead so just a photo and a quick note. We don’t like having so much to do that we feel overwhelmed; but it’s good to have things to do. For now, it’s still the four (five) of us. Too many adults in one house and definitely a lot different than when it was just the two of us. But it’s still (mostly) good. Finally having the house to ourselves will be very welcome; but also a bit bittersweet since there will be a finality to it. Unlike when the kids went away to school. Have a great weekend!

Traditional Thursday #126

Here is the rest of the video we made. It’s kinda a long story; but the digest version is that our camera captures movies as uncompressed AVIs. Very high quality but HUGE. It’s a lossless format so editing doesn’t decrease the quality which is good. But big files are a nuisance. So our current settings are a good compromise. A good (but not super HD) original for ourselves and files that are easier to manage. Anyway, here’s the video.

Wednesday Weirdness #126

I mentioned on Monday that the snow plow ran over our mailbox and I had to install a new one. It was late on Monday so I didn’t finish installing it until yesterday which, of course, was a gigantic nuisance. Despite being the exact same size from the same manufacturer, the screw holes were different! And I had to drill the box since the post it mounts to is heavy metal which was not easy to do since my drill doesn’t fit inside. So I ended up transferring measurements from one irregularly shaped piece to another while it was freezing cold outside. It’s done now; but it was MUCH more work than it should have been.

Monday Monologue #126

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The snow plow ran over the mail box. We live on a cul-de-sac, so it wasn’t the first time and it probably won’t be the last. Unfortunately, it was totally destroyed, so I had to put up a new one when I got home from work; even though it was freezing cold.
  • The “temporary” dog has been here long enough that she’s no longer much of a disruption since I’m almost completely finished training her. She still doesn’t like to go outside in the cold and snow; but, that might actually be a smart thing.
  • I noticed when I was at the home improvement store that they’ve already started putting out their lawn mowers for the spring. I know that they go by a certain date on the calendar; but it’s weird for them to be featuring mowers when there are huge piles of snow on the ground.
  • I’ve been investigating some cool new gadgets. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to get; but, there is a new electronic device in my future.

Friday Featurette #125

The Wife sitting naked on the bed with a tube of flavored lubricant I’m a bit under the weather today, so I’m posting a “throw back” photo from this past summer. It’s snowing yet again. And, then, below zero temperatures are forecast over the weekend after it stops snowing. So, it’s definitely good to reminisce about the warm days of summer.

Traditional Thursday #125

Here is the rest of the video from Tuesday. I don’t know why I didn’t think to do it before now; but I reduced the frame rate that the camera captures videos to something more web friendly. That makes uploading to our PC faster and transcoding to FLV quicker too. The originals we keep for ourselves aren’t noticeably lower quality and the web version you see her are exactly the same. Enjoy.

Wednesday Weirdness #125

I noticed when I was changing clothes to work out that there was a new sign requesting that people limit use of the machines during peak times. That’s a completely reasonable request. But, the recommended duration was laughable. It was obvious that whoever put it up has never worked out. The time limit wasn’t really even long enough to work up a sweat. If that was all that time it took to stay in shape, everyone would be super fit.

Tuesday Two For #125

We haven’t posted a movie in a while so we decided to make a new video this week. It’s got kinda a natural break in it so we’re posting it in two separate parts. It would have been nice to do something that was Mardi Gras themed; but temperatures have been near or below zero for most of the week so not a lot of things were going on around town. Anyway, enjoy the show.

Monday Monologue #125

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I ordered the “temporary” dog some cow ears. Mostly because I was curious exactly how “ear-like” they are. They also sell snouts as dog treats too. The things you learn when you find yourself living with a dog you don’t want.
  • This winter hasn’t been particularly snowy, especially compared to last year. But the shortage of road salt has resulted in streets that are icy and dangerous. So every drives is longer and more stressful.
  • I hate shoveling snow when it’s super cold outside. Most of my body is OK; but my fingers always feel like they are freezing.
  • The Wife had the day off so she had a nice relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, I had to work and got home late because of the commute over un-cleared roads. I’m not jealous; but, Christmas vacation seems a long, long time ago to me.
