Wednesday Weirdness #158

I recently encountered a situation where I couldn’t get the Blu-Ray player in our living room to turn off. In fact, it wouldn’t respond to any commands. It wasn’t until I switched the televesion inputs that I realized that a new firmware update was available and the dialog had to be conformed or cancelled. Who does things like that? Why do they think that a player is always going to be connected to a display? Especially a “smart” device that automagically turns itself on when it’s the selected input and off when it’s not the selected input.
