Monday Monologue #268

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had a great Thanksgiving holiday. It wasn’t long enough. But four-day weekends never are. We’re already looking forward to Christmas.
  • Someone scratched up the door of my SUV. Not bad enough to need to go to the shop. But bad enough to require touch up paint which I don’t have. So, the entire incident is doubly irritating.
  • It’s actually been warm enough the past few days that I’m debating whether or not to cut the grass one more time. I’ll probably leave it. I can think of much better things to do outside on a rare December weekend with warm temperatures.
  • I’ve ordered a few items online today. But nothing expensive. Unfortunately, most of the items we want/need were not on sale.

  • I cleaned the oven on Saturday since I probably won’t be able to do it for a long time. It was actually a “good” day for it. It was so windy I only needed to open a couple of windows to get enough ventilation.
  • The weather men were not wrong about the weather this weekend. It rained a LOT on Saturday. And Sunday was cold and windy. It took quite a while for us to warm up after being outside for so long.
  • I scheduled some regular maintenance on my car on Friday. I’m hoping for a shorter wait than usual. Hopefully not too many other people had the same idea. The shop I use is not near a mall or any big shopping centers.
  • We haven’t rowed in two weeks and it already seems like an eternity. Its going to be a long winter.

  • Happy to see the start of college basketball this week. Especially since neither my favorite college or professional football team is having a good season this year.
  • Even though I didn’t feel like it, I cut the front and side yards on Saturday. I think I’ll leave the back yard until next spring. Of course, my obsessive next-door neighbor had to cut his grass again on Sunday even though it didn’t need it.
  • The wife did our first indoor workout of the winter on Saturday. It’s good to keep in shape. But being on a machine is not nearly as much fun as being outside running or rowing.
  • It’s been a week and we’re still adjusting to the time change. That’s not unusual for us; but, it’s still frustrating.

Monday Monologue #265

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It was much too cold and far too wet for me to cut the grass this weekend. It’s going to be awhile since there isn’t enough light left in the evenings when I get home from work.
  • I washed our car only to have it rained on with a really dirty rain. I like to get the road grime off even if some precipitation is forecast; but, this was one of those occasions where it was pointless.
  • I ended up being outside more that I wanted too on Saturday and Sunday. Glad that I have good equipment and wasn’t too miserable. But some sun world has been nice.
  • The new wallet I got organizes things more efficiently but I haven’t gotten used to it yet and am still having a hard time quickly locating things.

Monday Monologue #264

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I cleaned the tile in the shower over the weekend which is a good thing since it really needed it. Unfortunately, I spilled cleaned on the floor and ruined a bath towel which is not a good thing. Amazingly, I was able to find an identical replacement at the store.
  • I finally retired my wallet after most of the stitching came undone. So, now I’m trying to break in a new one. It’s only be a couple of days and it still feels like I’m sitting on a brick.
  • We made sure to enjoy the weather this weekend. We rowed both days and did the homeowner thing which was good since there has been a steady rain since early this morning. I think we’re done with the yard except for a mowing or two until next spring.
  • Even though I arrived 20 minutes early, I still had almost two hour wait for an appointment I had today. What’s the point of taking appointment’s if you’re going to be so far behind schedule? What a gigantic waste of my time.

Monday Monologue #263

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • On Saturday, it appeared that my grass would be shorter than that of my next-door neighbor who is obsessed with cutting his grass. But, he came outside an hour before sundown and mowed and edged. We enjoy our space; but, sometimes, I wish I could cut my lawn that quickly.
  • With the weather turning colder, I placed an order for cold weather workout gear. It will be nice to have; but I was waiting as long as possible. Psychologically, it’s kind of like closing the pool.
  • Switching to a more flexible workout schedule is both good and bad. Its good because I can get outside when the weather is better rather than at a pre-determined time. Its bad because its much easier to let myself get stuck at work.
  • I just had another birthday. The older I get, the faster the years go by. It was a good day. I just wish it didn’t seem like my last one wasn’t that long ago.

Monday Monologue #262

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It’s taken over a year; but I’m actually almost comfortable transporting our boat on the roof of our car. I still don’t drive as fast as I normally do which is probably wise.
  • We visited the temporary dog and her owner. It was a bit weird being the guest rather than the host. But everyone, dogs and humans were glad to see us.
  • It rained so I didn’t cut my grass over the weekend. It’s going to be kind of shaggy before I get to it this coming weekend.
  • I didn’t realize it was Columbus Day until I was already in my car preparing to run errands. Unfortunately, it’s just a regularly day for us.

Monday Monologue #261

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It’s been relatively warm and dry recently so I decided not to cut the grass this weekend. Hopefully we will have some rains overnight one day soon or we’ll have to start watering the grass it which is rare for this is late in the year.
  • My next-door neighbor did cut his grass even though he didn’t need too. His lawn is almost exactly the same height as it was. I’m just glad most of our yard is fenced so he doesn’t damage too much of our lawn with his excessive mowing.
  • We have to check what time the sun goes down every day before we go rowing to make sure we’re not on the water after dusk and will still have enough light to put our boat away. We don’t have much longer to do things outside in the evenings.
  • I did finally get my email back at work today. Mostly. I have a lot of duplicate emails. And all of the rules and alerts I created over the years to keep my inbox from overflowing were gone. So, I have a lot of cleanup to do. And, of course, I’m behind on things that I didn’t know I was responsible for until today.

Monday Monologue #260

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The recharged air conditioner cooled things down very efficiently and we had a cool Friday night and a comfortable weekend generally.
  • The Wife and I rowed extra on Sunday even though it was blazing hot. Mostly because it’s one of the last hot days of the summer. Sadly, we will be back to normal late September temperatures by the end of the week. We hate to see the end of summer.
  • We also got in the pool both days. It was glorious. It was probably for the last time of the year; but, it was a great way to end the pool season.
  • Due to a glitch from maintenance over the weekend, I have no email at work. In fact, I can’t even start Outlook and look back over old emails. And no matter how many times I personally tell people that I don’t have email, people continue to message me and wonder why I don’t respond.

Monday Monologue #259

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I was able to cut the grass in between the time we rowed and we got in the pool after we got home on Sunday. So, I got my weekend chores done and had still had a relaxing day.
  • My next door neighbor cut his grass too even though he cut it few days ago. It’s kinda funny that my grass can never be shorter than his. Of course, the grass in our yard is much thicker and looks a lot better since it’s not stressed by constant mowing.
  • Earlier today, I almost got run into by a car turning left into oncoming traffic after going the wrong way on a one-way street to go the wrong way on the one-way street I was driving on. Thy didn’t seem to know or care that they were going the wrong way.
  • Every day the sunset gets noticeably earlier and earlier. It’s kinda depressing. It won’t be too long before we’ll only have the weekend to do outside things because it will get too dark in the evenings.
