Monday Monologue #336

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)
  • Our pool is open! I’m still vacuuming earthworms out and the water is freezing cold; but it still makes our backyard look more like spring.
  • As predicted, I cut the grass this weekend. Of course, my next-door neighbor cut his TWICE. Once on Friday and once on Sunday. Which was expected since I cut mine on Saturday.
  • I also got the mulch in down the front yard. So, while it was a bad weekend for outdoor activities near the river, it was a good weekend for around the house things.
  • No spoilers here; but we watched the latest Avengers movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s got to be a highly anticipated movie for us to go to the theater rather than wait for the Blu-Ray.

Monday Monologue #335

  • If you observe such things, we hope that you had a great Easter Weekend.
  • We are back from a 5-day spring break in a warm and sunny destination. It was fabulous. We actually returned the middle last week. It just took us a while to catch up on things after being on the road for so long. We’re back into our regular grove, though we would much rather not be.
  • I did finally cut the grass this past weekend. It was still a bit scraggly from the winter so it didn’t really need cutting before we left; but it certainly grew in while we were gone. It’s good I have a powerful lawn mower since it was still wet from the rain on Saturday.
  • It was cold, then it was rainy and now the river is too high. So, we haven’t rowed much recently. We have ridden our bicycles some; but, many of the bike paths are flooded too. Springtime is great after the long winter; but it would be even better without so much rain.

  • I’ve reconfigured my outdoor power equipment for the summer. The grass is turning green and it’s almost time to for the first mowing of the season. My next door neighbor has already started.
  • It’s definitely more comfortable in the house now that I’ve fixed the furnace. It probably wasn’t working as well as normal before it totally died.
  • We went down to the river but didn’t row on Sunday due to high winds. Usually we’re more determined; but, rowing season has just started and there will be a lot more opportunities.
  • Good luck to whichever team you’re cheering for in tonight’s championship. None of our favorites a participating, so we’re just hoping for a good game.

Monday Monologue #333

  • There have been several of outages in the data center our server is in; both scheduled and unscheduled recently. Thanks for sticking with us. Hopefully you are able to read this.
  • It was a bit chilly on Sunday afternoon; but we were able to row both days this weekend. That makes it seem more like spring even though the weather was too dark and rainy to do anything outside today.
  • We need to get new tires for our SUV. We’re use to below-average fuel economy, so, most of the time, we really like having a larger vehicle. Except when we need to replace the tires or do similar maintenance. Nothing that fits our vehicle is competitivity priced.
  • We are going to be offline for the rest of the week. We will see you in seven days.

Monday Monologue #332

  • Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day everyone. We did a few errands; but, otherwise, mostly stayed in. A quiet day at home was what I need to relax and recharge
  • We are (mostly) adjusted to the time change and its only taken a week. Usually it takes us longer. Perhaps having several somewhat sunny days last week helped. It was definitely a welcome change from the gray skies we have so often during the winter.
  • Now that we’ve been outside rowing, I am having a hard time getting motivated for my indoor workouts. I still go to the gym; but, it’s difficult to really go as hard; especially with the first day of spring on Wednesday.
  • Looking forward to “March Madness”. We don’t have a favorite team; but, it’s still fun to follow since every game is “win or go home”. And, there is a “Cinderella” almost every year.

Monday Monologue #331

  • For some strange reason, the clock in our SUV didn’t update after the time change even though it gets the time automatically from the mobile phone network. I wonder if someone, somewhere forgot to put the system on daylight time.
  • The Wife and I are both definitely still missing the hour of sleep we lost on Saturday night. It usually takes us quite some time to adjust. The extra hour of light in the evening isn’t worth the disruption.
  • In the world of strange facts, I used to work with a guy who couldn’t grasp the difference between standard time and daylight time. He would arrange meetings on the phone for a global team in standard time (over the summer) and then wonder why not everyone called in.
  • My phone has been doing a supposedly “minor” system update for hours. Its not stuck. Its just going very, very slowly. Kinda frustrating when I have things I need it for. Of course, the alternative would be no updates which is even worse.

Monday Monologue #330

  • I haven’t had it for very long; but I really like having a fitness tracker. It is very useful having quantitative information rather than guestimates. Of course, it tells me I eat too much which I already knew.
  • I think I was putting away my snowmobile suit was too optimistic. It snowed and the temperature is dropping into single digits. It was even too cold to take the dogs (who are visiting) for a walk.
  • With this weekend’s miserable weather, about all we could do was stay inside and watch a Blu-Ray. I think it was our last unwatched movie. We’ve had a lot of weekends like this past one this winter.
  • I decided to flush our hot-water heater over the weekend since I was stuck inside. There was relatively a lot of goo. It’s amazing how much stuff is suspended in the water we use even though we have municipal water. Glad the water we drink and cook with is filtered.

Monday Monologue #329

  • Amazingly, we survived this weekend’s windstorm without a power failure. More often than not, we’re the unlucky ones who lose power, sometimes for days.
  • I’ve recently started using a fitness tracker. It will be interesting to see how I compare to The Wife. She’s had one for a while now.
  • Working downtown, I often see cars going the wrong way on one-way streets. Usually, they turn around or turn off once they realize. But for the first time, I saw a driver increase speed in an attempt to reach the two-way portion that is quite some distance away as quickly as possible.
  • The latest update of our smart phones’ mail app doesn’t always retrieve all the mail from the server. It’s a very unlikely scenario that probably most people never encounter. Unfortunately, it happens for us all the time. It took a while; but we’ve got a workaround which is good since the issue will probably never get fixed since it is so rare for everyone else.

Monday Monologue #328

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)

  • Today is a holiday for some. Unfortunately, I am not one of the lucky ones. For me it was just a regular work day. Memorial Day is still a long way away.
  • I had to recharge the tank of our reverse osmosis unit thus weekend. Unfortunately, you can only add air when the tank is empty. Then you have to wait for hours until the tank refills to see if it’s under or over filled. Not the best way to spend a Sunday.
  • We decided to watch a movie in the home theater since it was typical February weather outside. We (especially me) like our spectacle-type moves. They look great on a big screen with surround sound. Much better than on the A/V system in the living room.
  • I put my snowmobile suit back in the basement. Not because the weather forecast calls for warmer weather. Despite the winterly mix we are having today, I’m hoping the bitterly cold snowy days are over.

Monday Monologue #327

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)

  • I’ve been getting a lot of spam calls recently on my mobile phone. I Know it must work or the spammers wouldn’t do it. But, wonder who answers numbers I don’t recognize. Especially on a mobile phone where almost everyone is a contact.
  • Except for the price, I really like the new eyeglasses I got recently. I’ve never worn contact lenses even though I am very near-sighted. So, it has always been somewhat of a challenge to find glasses that look good with my prescription.
  • One of the updates I did back in January broke something and I only just detected it. It took a forever to find it; because I was first focusing on more recent changes. Very frustrating.
  • It’s been hard; But I’ve been doing a pretty good job of not gaining weight this winter. I try and do a variety of workouts; but, after several months indoors at the gym, they all become pretty monotonous. Especially since there haven’t been very many days where we could get outside.
