With all of the popular browser starting to display warnings about “insecure” sites, I’ve been experimenting with changing this blog to be secure only. Everything should be the same except the warning now should be replaced by a padlock icon. I don’t know if I’ll keep the configuration permanently. But, now, even If I revert back, I know the best way to set everything up when I need to. Yet one more task that is a lot more difficult to perform with WordPress than it should be.
Have a great weekend. We hope you have a Monday off and can enjoy a three day one.
One of the things that good about working downtown and walking everywhere rather than driving is that I’m going noticeably longer between fill ups. I did not realize how much gas a few lunchtime errands were using each week. I still walk when it’s cold or rainy and not much fun to be a pedestrian But, I am really looking toward to spring. Winter gas mileage probably isn’t a major concern when you drive a big SUV. But, even though it’s not very much, I still have a list of items to purchase as the “efficiency savings”. accrues
Whenever it’s cold and we have trouble turning on the fireplace, I think about fixing it. Sadly, it’s such a gigantic nuisance that I still haven’t gotten around to it. First, I have to remove the fake logs and the all lava rocks so I can reach the gas piping. Then I need to take out both the thermopile and the thermocouple. Clean them up enough to read the part numbers so that I can find replacements. Then put everything back together. Order the new parts. And do everything all over again in a week or two when the parts arrive. And that’s assuming that the needed parts are readily available. One of the problems with everything being available on the internet is that very little is available at local stores. And this is definitely the type of involved disassembly that I would prefer not to do twice. An ideal indoor task for a cold, rainy weekend in the summer. If I don’t forget when its ben months since we turned on the fireplace.
It was almost warm today which basically means that, for once, it wasn’t cold. Not warm enough to do anything outside. But, warm enough, that walking from our car was tolerable and we didn’t feel like we had to rush … Continue reading →
We enjoyed Sunday’s game but are sad to see the pro football season come to an end. The NBA team we cheer for is in a deep funk. Our favorite college hoops team is having a down year. And we … Continue reading →
There were TWO updates to WordPress this week and its only Tuesday. One was “normal”. And the other was an emergency because of what the first update broke. I know that its free software and their revenue comes from their … Continue reading →
Best of luck to whomever you are rooting for in the Super Bowl. We’re hoping for a competitive game without another 4th quarter comeback by the league’s MVP. They have already been in more games than anyone else. And, of course, our favorite team home is watching on TV. An upset is not very likely, but we’re hoping. Have a great Super Bowl weekend!
January is over and I am (mostly) happy to see it in the rearview mirror. It had more than its share of bitter cold winter periods. And we had car problems with multiple vehicles. Anything is possible; but, February is … Continue reading →
When I was creating the photos for this post I saw that I had accidentally used the wrong name for the two of the media files I used last week. Amazingly, even though its 2018, renaming a file in the … Continue reading →
I got my car back this week. They did a good job except for the delay while they waited for parts. It was weird not driving a smart car. I hadn’t realize how accustomed to technology that I had become. I drive our other cars regularly including a 20-yrear old sedan. But, the loaner seemed primitive considering it was a 2018. I was so glad to have it back that I just drove around while I updated the maps for the GPS. Our next vehicle purchase a long way off. But it’s definitely going to have as many if not more features than the one we have now.
