Traditional Thursday #308

Our pool pump recently died. We had to have it fixed even though it’s doubtful we’ll be able to use it before we have it closed for the winter in a few weeks. Unlike many people, we don’t have a timer and always leave the pump running. Or water is usually crystal clear. But, the equipment does wear out faster. Its good to have nice things. But, there is also more opportunity for things to break down.

Wednesday Weirdness #301

For some strange reason, I’ve been finding a lot of dead birds outside recently in the mornings. Picking up dead things is not the preferred way to start the day. And, leaving them to sit in the heat until the evening is probably not a good idea. Plus, now that the neighborhood is developed, I don’t have an easy place to bury them. So, the day starts off with a nuisance chore.

Wednesday Weirdness #281

I was reading in the newspaper, that a constrict project in the area that was started earlier this year is already a month begin. How do you get that far behind when you haven’t yet even been working for three months? That does not bode well for the rest of the project. Especially since the delay is not weather-related.

Wednesday Weirdness #263

We closed the pool yesterday. We thought about getting in it one last time over the weekend. But the sun is so low on the sky we would have been in the shade most of the time. Having a heater is nice. But, it still can’t make up for a sun that barely seems to come over the horizon. So, we went for a row and did the homeowner thing instead. Spring seems a long time away.

Monday Monologue #242

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The temporary dog and her owner were home for Mother’s Day so it was a good weekend. We don’t have too many days where everyone is around so we always enjoy it went happens.
  • The top of my head is slightly sunburned. I’m not too happy about that; but it is nice to finally have weather where risk of sunburn is an actual possibility.
  • After two rainy weeks where I couldn’t mow along the back line, it took forever to cut the tall grass along the fence. I always have to use the push mower which doesn’t have the most power so the going was extra slow. It actually took me less time to cut the rest of the grass.
  • I’ve completed all of my spring maintenance on the pool and its ready for warm weather. I am forever replacing plastic parts damaged by the sun. I know that they are made of plastic so they can withstand being submerged in chlorinated water which is worse than the sun; but it’s still a bit of a nuisance.

Monday Monologue #213

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Sunday was breezy but still sunny and warm so I cut the grass except in one area where the ground was still too wet from all the rain we had last week. I don’t cut the grass during the week anymore since there isn’t much sunlight and we would rather be doing something fun. We’ll be preparing for winter in a few weeks anyway.
  • The drain in a sink in the master bathroom was clogged and needed to be cleaned out which wasn’t difficult except for the terrible smell since I had to remove the trap. I’m pretty handy around the house which is good. But sometimes, I kinda wish I wasn’t
  • Our oldest vehicle was in the shop and needed a part that is difficult to find. It’s been relatively reliable; but I’m wondering how much longer it will be repairable. It’s much older than our other cars.
  • I took our last CRT TV away to be recycled today. In the world of touch screen LCDs, it’s amazing how primitive “technology” used to be.
