Monday Monologue #274

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)

  • It warmed up enough over the weekend to melt most of the snow. Unfortunately, the temperature is already dropping and its supposed to snow again on Tuesday. I know it, is only January; but I was still hoping for a few more warm days.
  • Updating the maps in the GPS on my car really highlighted how computerized today’s vehicles have become. It was much like Windows Update complete with a progress bar followed by the obligatory reboot at the end. But it was somewhat disconcerting to have all the screens go dark while I was driving.
  • The keyboard tray on the desk I use was getting stuck all the time so I lubricated the slides over the weekend. It moves smoothly; but now I get WD40 on my hand when I adjust the position and grab edge the slide rather than the tray itself. Very annoying since I have to go wash my hands since I don’t want to get penetrating oil on my keyboard.
  • Why do they install gas pumps that don’t work with gloves in places that get cold in the winter? I wear gloves that used to work with touch sensitive devices; but now they’ve worn out.

Friday Featurette #273

The Husband on top of The Wife with her legs togetherI got my car back this week. They did a good job except for the delay while they waited for parts. It was weird not driving a smart car. I hadn’t realize how accustomed to technology that I had become. I drive our other cars regularly including a 20-yrear old sedan. But, the loaner seemed primitive considering it was a 2018. I was so glad to have it back that I just drove around while I updated the maps for the GPS. Our next vehicle purchase a long way off. But it’s definitely going to have as many if not more features than the one we have now.

Wednesday Weirdness #273

I recently discovered in the latest major Windows Update that “if the SMBv1 client is not used for 15 days in total, it automatically uninstalls itself.” Of course, that was only after I wasted hours trying to do something that I had done many times before that suddenly stopped working. I know that using an obsolete version can be a security issue. But silently automatically uninstalling a feature based upon it not being used in an arbitrary time period seems excessive. Especially since a reboot is required to reinstall it.

Tuesday Two For #273

The Husband and The Wife getting warmed upI really like the fact that the gym I now work out at during lunch hour is within easy walking distance. The downside to working downtown is that parking isn’t convenient for lunchtime errands. I would actually do more waking if I walked to the garage where I park usually park my car, drove to the nearest parking in vicinity of the gym, and walked inside than if I just walked directly there. I don’t mind walking. That’s one of the things I like about working downtown. I prefer to walk. Except when its freeing cold outside. Then I find myself longing for summer even more than I already am.

Monday Monologue #273

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)

  • I somehow lost the combination lock I use at the gym which is annoying. New locks are cheap and easy to find. Remembering a new combination after using the same one for so many years is the difficult part.
  • My car is at the shop (again). Amazingly, this time it’s for a mechanical issue rather than a software problem. Hopefully I will get it back soon. And I still haven’t updated the maps for the GPS.
  • I’ve used my snow blower attachment more in the past three days (twice) than I did all last year. That is what it is for. But, it would be nice to have a mild winter. Its supposed to be below zero tomorrow.
  • If you follow such things that was quite a football game on Sunday afternoon. Perhaps one of these days it will b e or favorite team with a great escape in the playoffs.

Friday Featurette #272

The Husband and The Wife enjoying a moment togetherOur vacation was great. But, like always, it came with a cost. I am still working even though it’s late Friday evening. And I have work to do tomorrow. Plus, it snowing so I’ll have to shovel the driveway too. I’m hoping that I can get everything done and relax on Sunday. Especially since I Monday is not a holiday for me. Have a great weekend. We hope that yours is a three-day one.

Wednesday Weirdness #272

I just received the 2018 map update for the GPS in my car. According to the instructions, it takes 50 minutes to upload and the car has to be running the entre time! Who lets their car idle for almost an hour? If I’m in the car that long, I’m probably on a road trip and using the GPS which, of course, means I can’t do the update.
