Monday Monologue #355

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Today is the first day of fall and there was a bit of a chill in the air after the sun went down which was mildly depressing since we like to do so many things outside.
  • We visited the temporary dog and her owner this weekend. The two of us being house guests (rather than the other way around) still seems slightly weird.
  • I skipped cutting the grass for yet another weekend. I can finally see a difference between mine and my next-door neighbor who cuts his all the time. So, I’ll probably need to mow soon.
  • The water level in the river is as low as I’ve ever seen it. We can’t row when the water gets too shallow so the laps we row get shorter and shorter.

  • We had a good weekend visiting our daughter. She is doing well. But, it is strange being a guest in her home rather than the other way around.
  • We came home this weekend to discover that someone had cut the grass in our front yard, presumably our next-door neighbor. I guess it bothered him that much. One less chore for us; but I’m still kinda annoyed.
  • Looking at the weather forecast, I don’t think we’ll get into the pool again this season. It was a good summer. But; suddenly, it’s turning cold.
  • Yet another good weekend for the college and pro football teams I follow. I’m not sure they are good. But; so far, they’ve been lucky. And very entertaining.

  • The Girl and her clan (AKA husband and two dogs) unexpectedly made it home for the weekend. Weekends like this don’t come around too often.
  • After sitting unused in the basement for years, we’ve started riding our bicycles again. You never forget how to ride a bicycle. But, helmets don’t age as gracefully. The new ones we purchased are cooler and more comfortable than the ones we had before.
  • We rearranged are storage in the garage over the weekend. It wasn’t haphazard. But, some things had spread out and were making it some items hard to reach. You can never have enough storage space.
  • It rained on Saturday; but we got in the pool on Today and Sunday. We didn’t even need to turn on the heater. It was a glorious weekend ending up with dinner on the grill.

Monday Monologue #272

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We are back! Our time off was very refreshing. 2018 promises to be a very different year from past ones.
  • For the first holiday ever, we did Christmas on the road. So, we were actually at the permanent home of the “temporary” dog. Great to be together for the holidays but definitely different.
  • The “temporary” dog’s owner got hitched. I know this day was coming. But I still wasn’t totally prepared. Everything is good. The day just came up MUCH faster than I expected.
  • We had cold or record cold temperatures for a lot of the days that we were off. Its warming up now. But then its supposed to snow and get cold again. We can’t wait for summer.

Monday Monologue #262

  • It’s taken over a year; but I’m actually almost comfortable transporting our boat on the roof of our car. I still don’t drive as fast as I normally do which is probably wise.
  • We visited the temporary dog and her owner. It was a bit weird being the guest rather than the host. But everyone, dogs and humans were glad to see us.
  • It rained so I didn’t cut my grass over the weekend. It’s going to be kind of shaggy before I get to it this coming weekend.
  • I didn’t realize it was Columbus Day until I was already in my car preparing to run errands. Unfortunately, it’s just a regularly day for us.

Monday Monologue #250

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Temporary Dog and her owner were home this weekend. The dog still remembered how to swim which is always one of my worries and was well behaved except for barking out the window one night at a skunk wandering around in the front yard.
  • A flat tire on Saturday night is a nuisance if you have to drive home to another city the next day. There are not a lot of places that can fix it on Sunday. I was at the shop before 8AM and there was already a line before they opened.
  • I was out and about a lot on Saturday and Sunday so I didn’t cut the grass over the weekend. Hopefully it won’t get too long before I can get too it. I probably could have done it on Sunday, but I just wanted to relax and enjoy the last little bit of my vacation.
  • Its going to take several days to catch up on the work that accumulated while I was on vacation. Recently, it seems like taking time off is really just scheduling extra-long work days for when I return. I enjoy my vacations; but, hate the long hours that follow them.

Monday Monologue #176

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The “temporary” dog was back to visit for the weekend; but that was a good thing since her owner was home too. It was a good family weekend.
  • I upgraded to the latest version of Office. It wasn’t a big change which was expected. And the install was much quicker with a faster CPU. Unfortunately, it didn’t fix the issue we’ve been having with our computer. I’ve got several more upgrades to do when I have time.
  • I didn’t realize it at the time but the upgrade to WordPress v4.4 in conjunction with a buggy plugin broke comments. They weren’t broken for admin users so I didn’t detect and correct the issue right away. I’ve disabled the bad plugin just in case even though there’s an update which theoretically fixes the problem. I need to be more vigilant in the future.
  • It’s supposed to snow tonight. Amazingly, it will only be the third time all winter. It’s been cold and soggy; but I haven’t needed to shovel a lot of snow. It seldom snows only few times in a “typical” winter; but I’m not complaining.

Monday Monologue #170

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Christmas was great. It was great to all be together. And, unlike most years, I can actually use most of the gifts I received. And, the “temporary” dog didn’t have any accidents while she was visiting.
  • We watched the new Star Wars movie when everyone was home over the weekend. It’s definitely a worthy addition to the series. I’m certain we’ll be getting it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.
  • It has rained a LOT over the last few days with yet more rain I the forecast. I’m starting to think that snow would be better. Especially since the temperature is near-freezing. And I hate being cold and wet.
  • Work is a very distant memory. We’re really enjoying our long Christmas vacation. I still working out every day; but I’m even on “vacation” from the gym I usually go to during my lunch break.

Monday Monologue #144

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Windows in preparation for Windows 10. It’s good to get our computers cleaned up. I should have refreshed (reinstalled) the OS long ago. There was a LOT of software I didn’t really need any more.
  • It rained most of the day today. Needless to say, we did not row or get in the pool. But we did have a good run on the park during a break in the rain.
  • It’s really nice being off from work. We’re “understaffed”, so I’ve been overworked for months and a lot of stuff is probably piling up in my absence. There will probably be some long days to catch up next week. But, I’m not even thinking about that right now.
  • Trying to decide what to get both of the kids for their birthdays. They’ve already got a lot of sort of things I like to buy as gifts. They’re not hard to buy for. I just like to give presents that are both useful and fun.

Monday Monologue #118

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’m kinda a gadget person so I get a lot of worthless “semi-gadgets” as Christmas presents. For some of my relatives gadget is synonymous with cheap toy that breaks the first time I use it if it even works at all. I’m polite; but I’d much rather have a sweater that fits.
  • The “temporary” dog has already eaten all the supposedly extra-durable toys we got her for Christmas. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had too clean stuffing up off the floor.
  • The video card in one of our desktop computers had died yet again. And, the fan didn’t work on the spare (i.e. an old one that was replaced in a previous upgrade) that I saved. So, I’ll be spending a bit more to buy one locally since I wouldn’t receive an internet order in timely fashion because of the mid-week holiday.
  • I upgraded the WordPress software that runs this blog. Mostly just a bug-fix release; but the default font in the editor is somewhat larger which is very welcome for these bifocal-wearing eyes of mine.
