Monday Monologue #194

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Despite the challenge conditions, we did well at our boat race this weekend. We get better both individually and as a team every time out.
  • We’re busy with work, like everyone, but we do try and stop and smell the roses. Life is a lot more fun when there is a good balance of making money and spending money.
  • We’ve been in our “new” house fourteen years. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were building “a big house on the hill.” It really is our castle.
  • After spending a lot of time “practicing” it was good to go for a “regular” row this evening. I’ve got a lot of things to work on; but our next race is a long way off.

Monday Monologue #169

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Today is the last day of fall. I know that it will be a gradual process; but, I am really looking forward to longer days. Nine hours of sunlight isn’t much. Especially when I’ve been inside working most all of the time the sun is up.
  • It’s four days before Christmas and I’ve got all of the gifts I’m giving purchased and wrapped. Probably the earliest that I have been “ready” in many years. Non-coincidentally, this year I’ve purchased almost everything online.
  • It’s only been a three days and I am really, really enjoying my vacation. Not working last Friday really helped. I’m going to do the same thing again next year if possible. And the fact that daytime temperatures have been in the 50s hasn’t hurt.
  • While I was shopping for everyone else, I also purchased a few things to help organize the stuff we have lying around the house. A few well designed items can really reduce clutter.
  • Amazingly, I’ve received recall notices for THREE of our cars for various issues. The only one that doesn’t have any problems (yet) is the one we jot bought lost month. More nuisance for us than others since the dealerships for our cars are “far” away for a city this size.

Monday Monologue #5

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We still aren’t getting our mail even though our new next door neighbors have moved into their house. Apparently, there is still work to be done. So our mailbox was still blocked on Saturday. Work trucks were still arriving when I left this morning; but we finally got all of our mail for the past week (some of which was held while we were away) including the long awaited smartphone rebates. It’s frustrating that people would rather block in our mailbox than park a bit further away.
  • We can’t really afford it; but we need more vacations. The Wife got slightly sunburned on Saturday, something that would never happen around here in mid-October. Airport “security” is a titanic nuisance; but it’s great to fly someplace far away and not be exhausted from the long drive.
  • This is not a political statement; it’s more just a frustration. I spent an hour and a half on the telephone with multiple offshore “customer service” representatives getting a refund for something very simple. It wasn’t a particularly difficult request, nor was there a disagreement. They just weren’t very good at doing their job.
  • It was great to get away; but it’s good to be home. Our batteries are fully recharged. When we’re on the road, we miss certain things that we like that don’t travel well and have to be left at home.
