Monday Monologue #99

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The Wife has a bit of a cold. Not enough to make her miserable; but, it’s still not exactly fun. I’ve somehow managed not to catch it so far. But my throat is starting to feel scratchy.
  • The four of us went out to dinner on Saturday. We didn’t have the best service; but it was much, much better than when we went out with the extended family. We spent less than half the time in the restaurant. And didn’t have any food preparation issues. So, even though the drive was longer, we spent a lot less time overall.
  • Having a puppy that’s being housebroken by someone who’s not as consistent and structured as I am is aggravating. Its learning much more slowly than if I was the trainer. Unfortunately, it’s our carpet.
  • It always “looks” like a thunderstorm might develop, sometimes enough to chase us out of the pool or off the water; but, we really haven’t had much rain at all. I haven’t had to mow the lawn; but, it’s not good for the grass. And we have to put water in the pool all the time.

Monday Monologue #88

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • After driving all over town for the past week socializing, our recently graduated daughter is asking for gas money so she can get to work. Despite having plenty of advance notice, she’s somehow surprised that we’re not interested in helping to finance her social life.
  • A new contractor at work is unhappy that it’s taking a long time to get set everything set up so he can be paid and thinking about “quitting” which, of course, will mean that he’ll never get paid. It’s the same amount of paperwork and bureaucracy whether it’s for a few weeks or an ongoing job so I’m not sure of his “logic”.
  • We’ve gotten a LOT of sun the past two weekends. After such a cold long winter, we can’t get enough sunshine. Unfortunately, some of that time outside has been spent cutting the grass and doing yard work. It needs to be done; but we would much rather just get in the pool.
  • The Wife and I are MUCH better at rowing now than we were at this time last year. It’s “looks” easy; but it’s actually very difficult when you actually get in the boat. We’ve got very good teamwork which helps a lot when we are out in our favorite two person boat.

Monday Monologue #78

  • I updated one if the applications I use frequently to a the latest version which uses a dark theme and monochromatic icons. At first I didn’t like it since it was so different from the old version; but now I’m liking it better.
  • Our youngest is ordering all of her graduation stuff. It will be good but weird having two college graduates. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when they were both in elementary school. Now, in less than two months, “school” will become an infrequently used word.
  • I shaved my head today. I do so every few days; but, recently I’ve noticed that if I don’t do it every other day, it seems “long” and needs cutting. I’ve kept my hair very short or shaved for many, many years; but I never thought that having hair barely long enough to feel with my hands would seem weird.
  • For the first time in a long time, the current weather is NOT news. Hopefully the trend continues.

Wednesday Weirdness #67

It was a long planned expenditure; but, I had the misfortune of needing to buy tires this week during this latest bout of cold, snowy weather. Owing a car is expensive; especially when it’s principally being driven by less than observant drivers (AKA kids). Maintenance that really shouldn’t be postponed seem to fall out of the sky.

Monday Monologue #63

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I took my next to last CRT television to the recycling depot today. It was HEAVY. I’m amazed that people, myself included, purchased such gigantic devices and thought nothing of it. I also disposed of our last CRT monitor. We should recycled them earlier; but they were out of site (and out of mind) in the basement.
  • I also sold some old computer components for parts on eBay. I get a lot of new gadgets so, unfortunately, I have a lot of old gadgets too. Thankfully, things are getting smaller and smaller so the newer stuff will be easier to dispose of when we don’t need it any more.
  • It appears our son will be getting an early Christmas present. The monitor on his computer died and we don’t have a suitable spare. So, I ordered him a brand new LED LCD online. We thought about getting him a smaller (and cheaper) replacement; but his mom and I decided to splurge and get exactly what he wanted.
  • I unexpected ended up leading boxing class today. I’ve done it before and enjoy it; but, it is exhausting. Especially when there are a lot of people. Plus, I’ve been a bit sick for the past few days. I wouldn’t want to do it “regularly”; but, occasionally being on the other side of the focus mitts really helps my technique.
