Monday Monologue #204

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I was finally able to resolve my issues with organizing photos that I copied from my old phone to my new phone. Just like on Windows, uninstalling and reinstalled the app fixed the issue.
  • All the rain was good for the lawn; but, it took me a LONG time to mow and edge since the grass was so high. Then we put down mulch in the one area that still needed it. Definitely a busy Saturday; but, good to get things done.
  • One of the “bad” things about getting a new vehicle is that some of the accessories I had for the old one don’t fit the new one. I’ll probably be selling some things online one day soon. Of course one of the good things about getting a new vehicle is that’s its comes with a lot of cool new things.
  • With long closed roads finally being reopened as a long construction project down, I discovered a quicker way go home from work. It good to not have to take detours every day.

Monday Monologue #200

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The weekend was great. I didn’t edge and trim so I didn’t even spend too much time cutting the grass. Of course we got in the pool both days.
  • We all got new smart phones. I don’t have mine all set up yet. They are much nicer than the mobile phones we used previously even though they were “only” two years old.
  • We also got a new vehicle. Something that we don’t do very often. We typically don’t replace vehicles as often as most people so its really nice having something new and modern.
  • I exceed the maximum number of remotes that could be paired to our garage door openers so I had to reset everything and start over. I wonder why they allow so few in the 21st century.

Monday Monologue #193

  • Even with a bit of rain, the weekend was glorious. After a wet soggy spring it finally seems like summer. And The Wife and really getting outside and enjoying the sun.
  • I accidently drank regular coffee from a machine today after only drinking decaf for the past seven months. I could really tell the difference even though it was a small cup. Thankfully it mostly wore off by evening.
  • I drove our car (as opposed to our gigantic SUV) today. The turbocharger gives it a lot of giddy up. Much nicer than the older, more practical vehicle it replaced.
  • I really like the outdoor power equipment I got this spring. I was outside most of this past weekend and, most of the time, I wasn’t doing the homeowner thing.

Monday Monologue #187

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • To kick off the spring, I got a bunch of new outdoor power equipment. It made for a long weekend; but, it was all good since it was warm and sunny outside. I thought my old lawnmower was good; but, the new one is way better. It’s going to be a great time saver.
  • The temperature was over 80-degrees today. The only thing “bad” was that it wasn’t sunny until after 9PM. Needless to say, we rowed ’til the sun went down. Days like today are why I am more cheerful in the spring and summer.
  • We are counting down to opening day for our pool. I’ve got the deck ready and the yard is looking good. Plus, the weather has been great. The only thing missing is the pool actually being open. Hopefully, we won’t have too much spring rain when it is finally open.
  • Now that its sunny, I am really enjoying the sunglasses I got a few months ago. The only problem is that I don’t have any place to put them when we are out in our boat and it starts getting dark. It makes preparing to dock somewhat interesting.

Monday Monologue #184

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We didn’t have any electricity for most of the weekend. Saturday night was cold which made the house cold all day on Sunday. It shouldn’t be so frequent; but we have a multi-day outage at least once a year. The repair capacity of the local utility is almost non-existent.
  • I was only kinda able to cut the grass over the weekend since I didn’t have any electricity to edge or blow. So, it turned into a two day chore. I don’t like doing yard work during the week. I’d much rather be doing something fun with my evening.
  • I wish that the weather would have been warmer over the weekend (when the power was out). Then I could have replaced the photocell in one of the outdoor fixtures. The light is on the same circuit as the kitchen/garage so it’s a nuisance to fix unless, of course, the power is already out.
  • Now that we have electricity and internet, I’ve been researching backup generators. They one I want is kinda expensive. But it would be really nice to have. It was only a few years ago that we spent several days of our summer vacation with no power.

Monday Monologue #182

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Somehow, when it wasn’t raining or snowing on Saturday, my next door neighbor cut his grass. I won’t be doing the same.
  • We got some cool new accessories for out boat over the weekend. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to use them for a few days.
  • I did our taxes on Sunday. We owe, as expected, but, much more than we had hoped. We’re going to be writing a BIG check next month.
  • We’ve been getting a lot of virus attachments to emails recently. They get auto-deleted by our antivirus software; but, even if they didn’t we wouldn’t open them. I know it must work or they wouldn’t be sent; but, I still wonder who opens suspicious attachments in 2016.

Monday Monologue #163

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had a fabulous weekend on the road away from the (soon to not be here) temporary dog. Sometimes upscale hotels are worth the money.
  • Our SUV is in the shop getting repaired so I’m driving item #2 on our adult toy list for a few days. The turbocharger, or more specifically the acceleration it provides, is way cool.
  • It’s finally gotten cold outside now. We’ll (hopefully) be able to row for a few more times and then we’ll be done for the year. It was as good season. We really wish it wasn’t over.
  • I haven’t been in the gym for a few days and really noticed when I was workout out today. It was surprising how quickly I lost strength. I’ll be back at it hard this week.

Monday Monologue #162

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We aren’t jonesing for a new car anymore. We got one! For a variety of reasons, it was a LONG overdue purchase. It’s great having a vehicle we trust other than a gigantic SUV.
  • We just closed our pool for the season a few weeks ago and The Wife is already getting catalogs with “2016 swim”. For us, next summer that seems much too far away to think about making purchases.
  • I ate too much Halloween candy so now I’m watching my weight. It seemed like a good idea at the time; but it wasn’t worth it in retrospect. I miss my dinners where I ate mass quantities of food.
  • The college and professional football teams I follow are both still undefeated. It really starting to look like it’s going to be a good year for the teams I support.

Monday Monologue #161

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We’ve always called ourselves “beginning rowers” since we started a few years ago. But, now that we have our own boat, that description probably inaccurate. We may not be experts; but we’re definitely serious.
  • I had a 75-minute meeting at work today that should have lasted less than 10. Nobody said anything new. We spent most of the time highlighting and resending previous emails that the organizer either ignored or didn’t understand. To say I was annoyed was an understatement.
  • After being well behaved for a long time, the “temporary” dog has turned into a yapping machine. We’re not sure why; but, we’ll be glad when it stops. Or, more likely, when she moves out.
  • The World Series starts tomorrow (I think). I used to be an avid baseball fan. Now I barely follow the sport. I know what teams are playing but not much more than that.

Monday Monologue #155

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • On Saturday we got our hands on the first (but hopefully not the last) item in our quest to “live large” now that our kid expenses are (mostly) finished. It was everything we imagined and more.
  • I changed the filters and added air to the pressure tank to our reverse osmosis unit on Sunday. It’s amazing how much better things seem after a little maintenance.
  • I had an extra dose of difficult people today and its only Monday. I really hope the rest of the week goes better.
  • Sad that it’s almost fall; but glad that football is back. Ready for some live, in-person action.
