Monday Monologue #117

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I had a “good” run on Sunday which means I’m still feeling the effects today. It was long and I ran a BIG hill twice. I’m still trying to lose a few pounds and, after that run, in the future I’ll definitely think before eating “extra” calories.
  • I did almost all of my Christmas shopping on line this year. Unlike the times when I’ve done it in the past; this year, it did NOT make the season seem less like Christmas.
  • Our daughter has to work every day but Wednesday this week. She’s always worked over the summer; but, now that she’s got to work through the holidays for the first time, she’s developing a new perspective of being a grown up.
  • By coincidence, our SUV needed an oil change this week. Usually they “recommend” additional services, some of which are good to do given the mileage. But, they we’re so ready to go finish the work and home for the holidays they didn’t offer anything extra this visit.

Monday Monologue #78

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I updated one if the applications I use frequently to a the latest version which uses a dark theme and monochromatic icons. At first I didn’t like it since it was so different from the old version; but now I’m liking it better.
  • Our youngest is ordering all of her graduation stuff. It will be good but weird having two college graduates. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when they were both in elementary school. Now, in less than two months, “school” will become an infrequently used word.
  • I shaved my head today. I do so every few days; but, recently I’ve noticed that if I don’t do it every other day, it seems “long” and needs cutting. I’ve kept my hair very short or shaved for many, many years; but I never thought that having hair barely long enough to feel with my hands would seem weird.
  • For the first time in a long time, the current weather is NOT news. Hopefully the trend continues.

Monday Monologue #45

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It seemed like I was out there forever; but I was really “only” working in the yard for about four hours on Saturday. We didn’t have a typical July weather-wise and it doesn’t look like we’re going to have haven’t had a typical August. A LOT of rain and hardly any sun. Good for the yard; but we haven’t spent much time in the pool.
  • Now that we’ve been using it for a month or so our new spam filter has “learned” what type of spam we receive even less is getting through than when we first installed and configured it. It works really well; but, I wish we still lived in a time when we didn’t need such things.
  • It’s not something I’ve been consciously trying to do; but lost a bit weight this summer because of the “extra” workouts I’ve been doing. I weighed 154 when I stepped on the scale this past weekend. That’s about 5 lbs. less than normal. And the wife and I really enjoy rowing. We’re pretty good for novices.
  • The wife and I think it’s strange that people like my parents “forget” about the internet. They use telephones or postal mail when doing something online would be much quicker and efficient. I don’t expect for them to start tweeting; but it would be nice if I didn’t need to call and alert them whenever I send an email.

Monday Monologue #44

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • When I was towing a rented trailer this past weekend, some people were tailgating me VERY closely. I’m sure I wasn’t going fast enough for them and they wanted me to change lanes. But, I can’t see them when they’re that close. So I was probably in there way longer than if they had backed off a bit.
  • Except when we are at a gas pump, our SUV is very useful. We keep our vehicles for a long, long time so our decision making process when purchasing a new vehicle is different than most people. But, we still think things like remote unlock are way cool.
  • Being micro-managed at work seems to be a permanent thing. It’s frustrating until I come home and see the reasons why I work. I definitely lucked out all those years ago.
  • We haven’t regularly visited anyone’s blog in what seems like ages. That’s kinda unusual; but we’ve been quite busy this summer even for us. Good times. A lot of “best thing ever” days.

Wednesday Weirdness #42

Unlike most people, the Wife and I don’t mind the heat wave we’ve been having. For us, it’s great pool weather which we haven’t had a lot of this year. And, rowing, our main outdoor exercise, is cooler than running since we row on the river which is cooler than running on pavement. Plus there is more shade. So we really wouldn’t mind if we stay stuck in this weather pattern for the rest of the summer.
