Monday Monologue #334

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife)

  • I’ve reconfigured my outdoor power equipment for the summer.  The grass is turning green and it’s almost time to for the first mowing of the season.  My next door neighbor has already started.
  • It’s definitely more comfortable in the house now that I’ve fixed the furnace.  It probably wasn’t working as well as normal before it totally died.
  • We went down to the river but didn’t row on Sunday due to high winds.  Usually we’re more determined; but, rowing season has just started and there will be a lot more opportunities.
  • Good luck to whichever team you’re cheering for in tonight’s championship.  None of our favorites a participating, so we’re just hoping for a good game.

Wednesday Weirdness #332

Today was the first day of spring. And, the forecast rains head off long enough for The Wife and I to go for a row. The weather wasn’t totally spring like; but it was good to be on the water. Somehow, over the past few years, we’ve become “diehards” and do things we wouldn’t have remotely considered doing a few years ago. I’m still not sure how or when it happened.

  • Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day everyone. We did a few errands; but, otherwise, mostly stayed in. A quiet day at home was what I need to relax and recharge
  • We are (mostly) adjusted to the time change and its only taken a week. Usually it takes us longer. Perhaps having several somewhat sunny days last week helped. It was definitely a welcome change from the gray skies we have so often during the winter.
  • Now that we’ve been outside rowing, I am having a hard time getting motivated for my indoor workouts. I still go to the gym; but, it’s difficult to really go as hard; especially with the first day of spring on Wednesday.
  • Looking forward to “March Madness”. We don’t have a favorite team; but, it’s still fun to follow since every game is “win or go home”. And, there is a “Cinderella” almost every year.

Wednesday Weirdness #294

I got caught in a torrential downpour when I was rowing on Tuesday. One minute it was clear. The next it was raining really, really hard. I was thoroughly soaked by the time I got back to the dock. Then, not surprisingly, it stopped raining by the time we put away the boat. I know that is the way of things and always a possibility. But, that didn’t make me any less cold and wet.

Monday Monologue #292

  • The new bags I ordered for our bicycles work well and are just the right size. We have plenty of space to carry what we need unlike the almost nonexistent storage capacity we had before. Much more convenient.
  • The string in the gas-powered trimmer I use always breaks multiple times whenever I edge along the fence. It’s more convenient than the corded, electric trimmer I used previously. But it’s not as easy to use as I expected since I didn’t realize how much I used auto feed.
  • When new were riding our bikes on Sunday, we almost got run down by a group of people riding ATVs on the bike trail even though a “No Motor Vehicles” sign is clearly posted at every entrance. Hopefully the park police will stop them before someone walking or running gets injured.
  • May was a warm sunny month that mostly made us forget how cold and dreary April was. Hopefully June will be more of the same. This weekend was good; but, is supposed to rain tomorrow.

Wednesday Weirdness #288

According to the report from our smart thermostat, in April, the heat ran 197% more than last year. That’s a lot even if April 2018 was unusually cold and April 2017 was unusually warm. We’re definitely are glad to see April in the rear-view mirror. Especially since the temperatures the first week or so in May seems more normal with even warmer weather in the forecast.

Monday Monologue #288

  • The pool is open! The water is still a bit cloudy and it still has some earthworms in it. But, it should be ready very soon.
  • It rained a bit on Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon; but, we had a great weekend outside. The cold weather seems to be ending. And were finally enjoying some warm sunny days.
  • I cut the grass this weekend. So, for the next day or two, it will be shorter than my next-door neighbor who mows his lawn twice a week. I like a nice-looking yard too; but, I’ve usually got things to do in the evening during the week.
  • I got a mud on my car from the parking lot at the place where we row and need to wash it again. It got flooded during the high water we had this spring. So, there is mud every where whenever it rains. My vehicle looks like I went off-roading.

Monday Monologue #287

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It rained today which was an improvement, comparatively speaking, over the snow that we had the previous three Mondays. Still, we are tired of all the wet rainy days.
  • I cut our grass for the first time of the season on Sunday. Its late for the first cut. But it has been so cold that that the grass really hasn’t grown much. Before I mowed, it wasn’t much taller than the neighbor who always cuts his.
  • We order a new bed today. It should theoretically be here on Wednesday. It’s a nuisance since we have to get all new stuff; but we decided to get a queen size. I’m not sure the extra 6-inches of width will make much difference.
  • We were able to row both days this weekend. Ordinarily, that would not be notable. But this weekend was actually the first time this cold, wet spring we were able to row both days.

Monday Monologue #286

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It snowed all the way back from our weekend road trip! It really doesn’t seem like mid-April.
  • I’ve got our tax returns ready to mail on Tuesday. We always owe and never get any money back and this year is no different. But, we are glad to have the extra day to keep our money.
  • All of the rain has been good for the grass which really needs to get cut. Hopefully it will warm up enough so that it will at least feel somewhat spring-like when I’m outside mowing the lawn.
  • I found a new gym to box and work out at. So far, I like it much better than the gym I use to go to.

Monday Monologue #285

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • For the second Monday in a row, we woke up to snow on the ground. It all melted by the afternoon. But; it was still not the preferred way to start the week.
  • I did not cut the grass today like several other people in our neighborhood. Mowing the lawn on the same day it snowed just seems slightly odd.
  • We watched a spectacle type movie this weekend. That’s our preferred genre to buy on Blu-Rays. The movie was what you would expect. But the special effects were great.
  • I am getting really tired of getting muddy shoes every time I walk around outside. It’s rained so much this spring that the ground is still oozes mud even when it hasn’t rained or snowed in a few days.
