Monday Monologue #302

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We got chased off the river by heavy thunderstorms twice in three days. The first time we got thoroughly soaked. But the second time we were in our car before the deluge started. Then the sun came out. Strange weather.
  • I cut the grass this weekend. It is nice having a powerful mower that power though tall, damp grass. That way I can mow quickly and move on to the summer activities I enjoy.
  • I had to work on Saturday. I know it’s not always the case but it seems like stuff always blows up on Friday. Luckily, I was still able to get out and enjoy the sun (and still get all the yardwork done).
  • My next-door neighbor cut his grass too even though its August and he just cut it earlier in the week. I wonder how much time he wastes cutting his grass (and doing other things) when he doesn’t need too.

Monday Monologue #299

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We got soaked in a sudden pop up storm on Saturday. One minute it was sunny. The next, it was raining really hard. Then the sun came back out.
  • One of the bad things about working downtown is the lack of free parking. I left the key card that I use to open the gate to the garage I park in at home. So, I had to drive back and it. A nuisance; but, a lot less gas than the cost of the daily parking rate.
  • Today was a glorious day on the river. We seldom get water as smooth and flat as it was this evening. Days like today don’t come around too often.
  • For the first time since the summer solstice, sunset was before 9PM today. There is still plenty of summer left; but, the days are noticeably shorter.

Monday Monologue #298

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Saturday was great. We rowed and got in the pool. Plus, I didn’t have to cut the grass since it hasn’t rained recently and the grass hasn’t grown. So, our weekend was very relaxing.
  • One of the “good” things about getting a new air conditioner during a heat wave is that we’ll probably save about $100 over our old one (if it hadn’t died) off our next electric bill.
  • We finally had some rain today which our lawn really needed so we won’t need to water the grass for a while. It still hasn’t grown enough to need mowing. I don’t want a drought. But it is nice to be able to occasionally skip cutting the grass.
  • The days are getting shorter and the sun is going down a bit earlier. There is still plenty of summer left; but we have noticed that the days aren’t quite as long.

Monday Monologue #294

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Our rowing is still improving. We just wish there were more nearby races that we could attend. We know that we’re faster from our informal competitions. But it would be nice to have some official results.
  • It rained a bit on Saturday afternoon; but we were able to get into the pool on Sunday. Temperatures were in the 90s both days so it was good.
  • I fixed a broken piece on the dishwasher for the third time today. I understand that they need to make certain parts out of plastic. But they could still be more durable.
  • The air-conditioner has been running almost non-stop during the current heat wave. I don’t even want to think about our next electric bill.

Monday Monologue #293

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We did NOT ride our bicycles this weekend like we wanted too since there were too many “scattered thunderstorms” both afternoons. It never really rained. But, being caught in the rain 10-miles away from our vehicle is not any fun.
  • We’ve are rowing a lot faster than before. We’ve known how to row for years. But we are only just now truly understanding the mechanics of rowing. We always knew technique was important. But, being able diagnose and fix bad technique is elusive.
  • It’s great having a big lawn mower when I want to get the grass cut in a hurry. Even wet grass is no problem if the ground isn’t soggy. I can get the yard done early and enjoy my weekend without having to wait around.
  • The summer solstice and the 4th of July is right around the corner. We’re a bit sad because it means that summer is half over. But, there will still be many glorious summer days.

Monday Monologue #260

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The recharged air conditioner cooled things down very efficiently and we had a cool Friday night and a comfortable weekend generally.
  • The Wife and I rowed extra on Sunday even though it was blazing hot. Mostly because it’s one of the last hot days of the summer. Sadly, we will be back to normal late September temperatures by the end of the week. We hate to see the end of summer.
  • We also got in the pool both days. It was glorious. It was probably for the last time of the year; but, it was a great way to end the pool season.
  • Due to a glitch from maintenance over the weekend, I have no email at work. In fact, I can’t even start Outlook and look back over old emails. And no matter how many times I personally tell people that I don’t have email, people continue to message me and wonder why I don’t respond.

Monday Monologue #259

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I was able to cut the grass in between the time we rowed and we got in the pool after we got home on Sunday. So, I got my weekend chores done and had still had a relaxing day.
  • My next door neighbor cut his grass too even though he cut it few days ago. It’s kinda funny that my grass can never be shorter than his. Of course, the grass in our yard is much thicker and looks a lot better since it’s not stressed by constant mowing.
  • Earlier today, I almost got run into by a car turning left into oncoming traffic after going the wrong way on a one-way street to go the wrong way on the one-way street I was driving on. Thy didn’t seem to know or care that they were going the wrong way.
  • Every day the sunset gets noticeably earlier and earlier. It’s kinda depressing. It won’t be too long before we’ll only have the weekend to do outside things because it will get too dark in the evenings.

Monday Monologue #258

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Both our favorite college and professional football teams endured thorough beatings this weekend. Hopefully they can regroup; but, right now, it’s still kinda depressing.
  • It didn’t need that much; but we put water in the pool for the first time on Saturday. Its definitely been a wetter summer than previous years.
  • It was good to have my more powerful gas-powered trimmer back from the shop. I did all the areas I hand been mostly neglecting due to the difficulty of using my corded electric trimmer.
  • My weight has been staying around 150lbs since I gave up eating snacks at the beginning of last month. I knew I snacked too much; but I still didn’t think it would have such a dramatic effect.

Monday Monologue #257

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Saturday was wet and dreary; but we were able to get in the pool both yesterday and today. A great way to commemorate the symbolic end of summer.
  • Looking forward to pro football season. Hope springs eternal for the downtrodden fans of our favorite team.  Especially before the first game of the season. Perhaps the weather will cooperate and we’ll be able to get attend some games in person without freezing.
  • I replaced one more item on our boat that I didn’t think needed to be replaced but was actually more worn out than I thought. We row it a lot so things get worn out faster than if we didn’t use it so much. Hopefully this is the last thing for the season.
  • For some strange reason, an old computer game that is a favorite of The Wife and I has been crashing a lot recently. I’m not sure what, if anything, has changed; but it’s frustrating, especially when we’re winning.

Monday Monologue #256

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I enjoyed the big fight this past Saturday. Usually, events like that don’t live up to the hype; but this one did.
  • We rowed and got in the pool on Sunday. Hopefully, there will be more of the same over the three-day weekend next week. Hopefully we won’t be in the path of hurricane remnants.
  • We have our pool closing scheduled so the un-official end of summer is near. It’s already starting to get dark much earlier than it a couple of months ago so it’s clear that that the long hot days of summer are coming to an end.
  • We’ve had to replace several things for our boat recently. Having your own equipment is nice but there is more ongoing maintenance that that I thought there would be. Probably because our more stringent definition of needs replacement.
