Monday Monologue #351

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It was interesting to watch some of the rowing championships on TV. Everyone has decent technique. But like most competitors at the international level, they are mostly freakishly good athletes.
  • We finally have had some rain. I didn’t cut the grass this past weekend (again). But, hopefully, it will recover quickly and I’ll need to mow next weekend.
  • The Wife and I ran today since it was rainy. We haven’t run a lot recently since almost every day that was good to be outside was a good day for rowing.
  • The weather this week is forecast to be much cooler. We are looking forward to a three-day weekend next weekend. But, with Labor Day being the symbolic end of summer coupled with the change in the weather, it’s seems like the warm, sunny days we love are over until next year.

Monday Monologue #349

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had a great weekend. The weather was good and we were outside enjoying the summer. The only “bad” thing was that we had to get up too early on Saturday morning.
  • We were out in the sun all day Saturday so we didn’t get in the pool on Sunday even though it was great pool weather. Instead we stayed inside and enjoyed the air conditioning when we weren’t doing things outdoors.
  • My car still has 2% oil life left despite us taking a road trip this week. I know thus because I’ve been seeing the change opal soon message multiple times a day all weekend. I will be very glad to finally have an oil change the week.
  • It’s been so dry that we finally had to start watering the grass. Needless to say, I haven’t been cutting the grass.

Monday Monologue #348

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We had another weekend of warm, sunny weather. Typical July weather for around here; but very welcome after all he rain, we’ve had.
  • We’re dog-sitting the temporary dog (and friend) for a few days. Its just like old times excerpt it reminds us how much time has passed.
  • I cut my grass on Saturday. It wasn’t really long. I just wanted to even it up a bit. It’s in much better shape than the neighbor who continues to cut his several times a week despite the hot weather.
  • We got in the pool over the weekend too. The water was so warm that we didn’t even have to heat it up.

Monday Monologue #347

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • The heat wave we are having has been great! We were able to get in the pool and row afterward in the late evening on the same day. Probably too hot for most people; but great for us.
  • It rained some on Sunday evening. It’s been so hot and dry that it didn’t make the river get to high and the grass still isn’t long and shaggy (although I will need to cut it soon).
  • Kinda sad for the people who had outdoor events cancelled this weekend due to the heat. We like it warm; but don’t like seeing people miss out on things that thy had been planning.
  • I wore a hat when we rowed on Sunday and jut keeping my face in the shade it made a big deference in how cool I felt. Something to keep in mind for the future.

Monday Monologue #346

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • After a zero-day work week and a four-day work week, this week will seem long.
  • Its been hot so I haven’t been cutting my grass. Our grass is only slightly longer than that of our next-door neighbor who has cut his twice. But it’s much greener.
  • We got in the pool on Saturday and didn’t even need to turn on the heater. It’s been that warm recently. It won’t last; but after the cold, wet spring the July heatwave has been great.
  • The new air-conditioner that we got last year is fabulous. It runs way less than the old one; but still easily keeps the house cool.

Monday Monologue #345

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Our Independence Day vacation was great! We got outside every day. Sometimes it rained; but we were able to enjoy the day before the rain or after the sun came back out. We got in the pool a lot too.
  • I had a dentist’s appointment today on my first day back to a regular work schedule. I don’t mind; but it was quite a difference from last Monday.
  • It’s been hot which is a good thing for us. So even though we had some rain, I only cut the grass once since it didn’t grow much.
  • We didn’t do everything we planed last week which is a good thing. It was great to just be spontaneous and not have anything that we “needed” to do. It was a great week!

Monday Monologue #344

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We rowed and got in the pool both today and yesterday. It doesn’t get any better than that. Day’s like today don’t come around too often.
  • We’re on vacation all this week, and so far, the weather has cooperated. Rain is in the forecast almost every afternoon or evening; but; mornings are supposed to be sunny and warm.
  • We’re soccer fans so we’ve been following the games from France. Its great being on vacation and able to watch the big game tomorrow live.
  • I still haven’t washed my car. Mostly because I’m slightly superstitious and don’t want to jinx us.

Monday Monologue #302

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We got chased off the river by heavy thunderstorms twice in three days. The first time we got thoroughly soaked. But the second time we were in our car before the deluge started. Then the sun came out. Strange weather.
  • I cut the grass this weekend. It is nice having a powerful mower that power though tall, damp grass. That way I can mow quickly and move on to the summer activities I enjoy.
  • I had to work on Saturday. I know it’s not always the case but it seems like stuff always blows up on Friday. Luckily, I was still able to get out and enjoy the sun (and still get all the yardwork done).
  • My next-door neighbor cut his grass too even though its August and he just cut it earlier in the week. I wonder how much time he wastes cutting his grass (and doing other things) when he doesn’t need too.

Monday Monologue #299

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • We got soaked in a sudden pop up storm on Saturday. One minute it was sunny. The next, it was raining really hard. Then the sun came back out.
  • One of the bad things about working downtown is the lack of free parking. I left the key card that I use to open the gate to the garage I park in at home. So, I had to drive back and it. A nuisance; but, a lot less gas than the cost of the daily parking rate.
  • Today was a glorious day on the river. We seldom get water as smooth and flat as it was this evening. Days like today don’t come around too often.
  • For the first time since the summer solstice, sunset was before 9PM today. There is still plenty of summer left; but, the days are noticeably shorter.

Monday Monologue #298

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Saturday was great. We rowed and got in the pool. Plus, I didn’t have to cut the grass since it hasn’t rained recently and the grass hasn’t grown. So, our weekend was very relaxing.
  • One of the “good” things about getting a new air conditioner during a heat wave is that we’ll probably save about $100 over our old one (if it hadn’t died) off our next electric bill.
  • We finally had some rain today which our lawn really needed so we won’t need to water the grass for a while. It still hasn’t grown enough to need mowing. I don’t want a drought. But it is nice to be able to occasionally skip cutting the grass.
  • The days are getting shorter and the sun is going down a bit earlier. There is still plenty of summer left; but we have noticed that the days aren’t quite as long.
