Monday Monologue #364

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).
  • Looking forward to Thanksgiving and the 4-day weekend. Work has really ben raising my blood pressure recently. I also enjoy the “Rivalry Saturday” football games. One of the best weekends of the year for college football fans.
  • The battery in my cell phone doesn’t last nearly as long as it used to. I’m not yet to the point where the phone seems old, slow and in need of replacement. But it doesn’t go all day on a charge anymore. Some of it is the battery. And some of it are a few battery-draining applications that I have recently uninstalled.
  • The weather forecast doesn’t look promising for doing anything outside this week. I’m sure my next-door neighbor will bundle up and cut hos grass. But I’m done with yard work until spring.
  • I’ve been getting a LARGE amount of spam at my oldest email address. Its actually rather annoying since it’s the only account I have that still works when I have server or network problems. It’s not some clever new variety of spam so I’m not sure what the problem with their mail filter is.

  • We’ve stared back going to the gym on weekends. The workouts are fine and keep us in shape. But It’s not nearly as much fun as being outside.
  • Sunday was sunny and “warm” for around here especially for November. It was good to be able to get outdoors for a couple of hours in the early afternoon and enjoy the day before it got cloudy and colder.
  • The snow mostly melted so my next-door neighbor cut his grass. I didn’t even contemplate cutting mine since more of my grass was covered with snow as my yard is larger and somewhat more shaded by my house. I don’t ever cut grass in the snow.
  • Its time to stock up on Blu-Rays so we’ve got something to watch on TV this winter. Our favorite NFL team is definitely unwatchable. I don’t even bother recording the games anymore.

  • Our weekend was another busy one. It turned cooler on Saturday. So, we know that there won’t be many more for us to enjoy.
  • We set our setback thermostat to winter mode where it lets it get cooler at night and warmer during the day when we are awake. (Its reversed in the summer.) I don’t think we’ll be running the air conditioning much.
  • We closed our pool last week. Yet another sign that summer is over. It went past quickly.
  • I’ve also started preparing our vehicles for cold weather. It’s not here yet. But its close enough that I want to be ready.

  • The weekend was great. And not just because I didn’t have to go to work. We got out side and had a good time rowing and a good time running. And it didn’t start raining (which we need) until the sun was going down on Sunday.
  • Even though we got started at our regular time, we couldn’t row as much as we wanted to today since sunset is a lot earlier these days. Sadly, not too many more days of rowing left this year.
  • In another sign of the end of summer, there weren’t any grill style hamburger patties at the grocery store and they don’t plan to have any more until sometime next spring. Everything is seasonal these days.
  • And, in the strongest sign that summer is over, we’ve just started running the heat overnight the past few days. Mostly just to take the chill off the morning. Air conditioner weather is likely over for the year.

  • We had a great weekend. The weather was good and we were outside enjoying the summer. The only “bad” thing was that we had to get up too early on Saturday morning.
  • We were out in the sun all day Saturday so we didn’t get in the pool on Sunday even though it was great pool weather. Instead we stayed inside and enjoyed the air conditioning when we weren’t doing things outdoors.
  • My car still has 2% oil life left despite us taking a road trip this week. I know thus because I’ve been seeing the change opal soon message multiple times a day all weekend. I will be very glad to finally have an oil change the week.
  • It’s been so dry that we finally had to start watering the grass. Needless to say, I haven’t been cutting the grass.

  • It rained on Saturday; but was sunny and hot on both Sunday and Monday. Great pool weather for the traditional “end of summer”. Plus, it’s supposed to be hot for the next few days. So, we’ll have some more good days on the river.
  • The rain on Saturday was “good” since the yard needed some water and I was still able to cut the grass. It took a long time to get all the wet grass out of the lawn mower. But, it was nice having no chores left to do on Sunday or Monday.
  • We’ve rowed our boats at LOT this summer. Definitely a worthwhile investment. Today isn’t the last day of the rowing season. But, the days are getting shorter and, soon, the weather will be turning colder. Hopefully it will still be short sleeve weather for a while.
  • I didn’t watch very many games; but, it was good that football season is back. It usually doesn’t last for our favorite teams; but, the optimism that accompanies a new season is always enjoyable. Hopefully, the fall weather will be good and we’ll be able to attend some games in person.

  • We did indeed get in the pool on Sunday. The water was cold (for us) but it was still good.
  • We got chased off the river by rain again today. It’s slightly frustrating since it never rains for too long. But its better to be safe; especially since rain showers can easily turn into a thunderstorm.
  • I cut the grass in record time on Saturday; mostly because didn’t edge with the push mower and trimmer like I usually do.
  • After watching a few preseason games over the past two weeks, we are ready for some real football.

Monday Monologue #298

  • Saturday was great. We rowed and got in the pool. Plus, I didn’t have to cut the grass since it hasn’t rained recently and the grass hasn’t grown. So, our weekend was very relaxing.
  • One of the “good” things about getting a new air conditioner during a heat wave is that we’ll probably save about $100 over our old one (if it hadn’t died) off our next electric bill.
  • We finally had some rain today which our lawn really needed so we won’t need to water the grass for a while. It still hasn’t grown enough to need mowing. I don’t want a drought. But it is nice to be able to occasionally skip cutting the grass.
  • The days are getting shorter and the sun is going down a bit earlier. There is still plenty of summer left; but we have noticed that the days aren’t quite as long.

  • The Girl and her clan (AKA husband and two dogs) unexpectedly made it home for the weekend. Weekends like this don’t come around too often.
  • After sitting unused in the basement for years, we’ve started riding our bicycles again. You never forget how to ride a bicycle. But, helmets don’t age as gracefully. The new ones we purchased are cooler and more comfortable than the ones we had before.
  • We rearranged are storage in the garage over the weekend. It wasn’t haphazard. But, some things had spread out and were making it some items hard to reach. You can never have enough storage space.
  • It rained on Saturday; but we got in the pool on Today and Sunday. We didn’t even need to turn on the heater. It was a glorious weekend ending up with dinner on the grill.

Monday Monologue #289

  • The latest Windows Update installed a new major version of Windows 10 on our home computers. Now, they can’t see each other. It works great otherwise and has some interesting new features, so, I won’t be rolling back. But, that’s an annoying problem.
  • The Girl and her family of dogs was home for the weekend. We had a great Mother’s Day. Although, strangely, one of her dogs can’t swim and needed to be carefully watched whenever they were outside near the pool.
  • One of the “waterproof” electronic items that I use for rowing somehow got water inside the screen on Saturday. So now I have to pay to ship it it back to the manufacturer and pay for repair. I’m definitely not happy.
  • My next-door neighbor did NOT cut his grass this weekend which is very unusual. Especially since I cut mine. I wonder if he’s started to notice the damage all the frequent mowing is causing.
