Monday Monologue #374

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I only had to two errands this past weekend which was great; because both Saturday and Sunday were miserable weather-wise. The only “good” thing is that the rain melted the snow.
  • Another week and still no microwave. I would be starting to get annoyed if it I it wasn’t the sort of thing that I can only find the time and extra hands to install on weekends.
  • When it’s not cloudy, which is very rare, I’m actually starting to get sun in my eyes on the commute to and from work. It’s nice that there is enough light to use the sun visor. Maybe we’ll actually have a few days of sunshine.
  • I need to wash my car and get the salt off, but, every time I check the weather, it’s supposed to rain, snow or sleet within the next 36-hours.

  • Now that we have had a chance to use it for a while, we are really enjoying the exercise equipment we got on Black Friday. Much better than going out ion cold, dreary winter days.
  • The exercise equipment was expensive so we won’t be doing an elaborate Christmas gift-giving wise this year since its already our big gift to ourselves.
  • The only downside to our new workout room is that it gets hot even with the register closed. I didn’t think just two people would create so much heat and humidity. But it is nice to get dressed in lightweight workout clothes and not need a second layer for the walk to and from the car.
  • It’s only early December and it already seems like winter has been going on forever with only an occasional sunny day. That’s normal for around here; but the unending dark, wet days are mildly depressing.

Monday Monologue #330

  • I haven’t had it for very long; but I really like having a fitness tracker. It is very useful having quantitative information rather than guestimates. Of course, it tells me I eat too much which I already knew.
  • I think I was putting away my snowmobile suit was too optimistic. It snowed and the temperature is dropping into single digits. It was even too cold to take the dogs (who are visiting) for a walk.
  • With this weekend’s miserable weather, about all we could do was stay inside and watch a Blu-Ray. I think it was our last unwatched movie. We’ve had a lot of weekends like this past one this winter.
  • I decided to flush our hot-water heater over the weekend since I was stuck inside. There was relatively a lot of goo. It’s amazing how much stuff is suspended in the water we use even though we have municipal water. Glad the water we drink and cook with is filtered.

Monday Monologue #327

  • I’ve been getting a lot of spam calls recently on my mobile phone. I Know it must work or the spammers wouldn’t do it. But, wonder who answers numbers I don’t recognize. Especially on a mobile phone where almost everyone is a contact.
  • Except for the price, I really like the new eyeglasses I got recently. I’ve never worn contact lenses even though I am very near-sighted. So, it has always been somewhat of a challenge to find glasses that look good with my prescription.
  • One of the updates I did back in January broke something and I only just detected it. It took a forever to find it; because I was first focusing on more recent changes. Very frustrating.
  • It’s been hard; But I’ve been doing a pretty good job of not gaining weight this winter. I try and do a variety of workouts; but, after several months indoors at the gym, they all become pretty monotonous. Especially since there haven’t been very many days where we could get outside.

Monday Monologue #316

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • It was hard to get back to work today after being off for four days. I really didn’t feel like going out this morning. Especially since the weather is cold and blustery. The sunshine we had over the weekend totally vanished.
  • Thanksgiving was great. We did all of the traditional things that we like to do. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving is a week earlier than usual. So, we have more than a month until our Christmas vacation.
  • Amazingly, we rowed over the weekend. Of course, it’s supposed to snow tomorrow. It was a lot more fun than cutting the grass or raking the leaves. Especially since we’ve never been able to row this late in the year. Of course, it’s supposed to snow tomorrow.
  • I did not buy anything today. There were a lot of good deals. Just not on the items we want/need. These days, I do almost all of my Christmas shopping online. I just don’t need to be finished before the end of November.

Monday Monologue #282

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Earlier today we had nice spring like weather with temperatures near 60-degrees. Now, the temperature outside has already dropped into the 30s and snow is supposed to start falling in the next few hours. Not the best way to start off the week.
  • Of course, I used the good weather on Sunday to switch my outdoor power equipment back to lawn-care mode. So, I will be outside in the cold on Tuesday changing things back to the winter configuration.
  • Since it was looking more like spring, I ordered some new prescription glasses for outdoor activities on Friday. They won’t arrive for a week or so. Hopefully this is the last blast of winter and there will be plenty of sun to try them out.
  • Taxes are due in a month. Long past time to work on them. I just haven’t had the energy to start on such a depressing task whenever I happen to think about it. Hopefully next weekend.

Monday Monologue #227

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • I’ve discover that I don’t really mind working out on an indoor rowing machine. It’s obviously not as fun as being on the water. But it’s not as boring as monotonous as I thought it would be.
  • I didn’t take long to get use to my new glasses. Probably because my old ones weren’t the correct prescription any more. Amazingly, my prescription still changes every year.
  • I’m starting to look for a new music player for my phone since my current one doesn’t have an easy way to arrange play lists. Drag and drop isn’t very useful once you have a lot of songs.
  • It’s been a long time since we’ve had a bright sunny day. I know that’s what happens in the winter around here; but I would still love to feel the sun.

Monday Monologue #225

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Unlike some people (including The Wife), I did not get today off. I’ll certainly take some vacation this spring. Memorial Day is a long way away.
  • I’m not a fan of either team; but last Monday’s college championship was definitely entertaining. The NFL games were a somewhat better too; but there have been a lot of one-sided games this post season.
  • I was sick for over two weeks; but I’m finally starting to feel mostly like myself. I generally don’t get sick very often so I’m really hoping to be healthy for the rest of the winter.
  • It’s supposed to be warmer than average around here for at least the next week or so. I’m sure it will still be dark and rainy; but that’s still much better than snow and ice.

Monday Monologue #177

An interior monologue from me (and sometimes the wife).

  • Unlike The Wife, I did NOT have today off. In fact, I had more work than usual since we were short-handed despite being one of the unlucky ones who had to work over the weekend.
  • Office 2016 is a minor but still useful improve over Office 2013. Of course it would be a lot better if it supported the Live Tiles feature of Windows 10. But, I do like how each application has a different predominant color theme.
  • The unseasonably warm winter that we had last month has become a distant memory. Now it’s either snowing or freezing cold or both. I’m very tired of dreary winter days. At least February is half over.
  • Hoping to schedule opening our swimming pool sometime soon. Having a definite date makes warm weather closer even if our appointment is months away and the cover is still completely buried in snow.
